A Brief Overview

The Environmental, Health & Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring facility compliance with corporate Health, Environmental, Safety, Security and Sustainability requirements and governmental regulations. Specific duties include safety training, compliance audits, leading employee committees, managing improvement projects, waste management and record keeping. The goal is driving EHS excellence in all areas. Keys to success in this position are demonstrated success driving EHS improvements, tackling and implementing EHS projects and initiatives; and a progressive leadership style to manage, coach and mentor a small EHS staff. The ideal candidate is a hands-on EHS leader with strengths in collaborating and gaining buy-in with multiple levels of management and employees in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with proven ability to manage a complex workload.

What you will do

  • Work in partnership with site, Divisional, and Corporate EHS, Engineering, Facilities teams, and other stakeholders to establish and/or maintain strategic site plans to achieve EHS KPI's while monitoring performance and reporting on progress.
  • Foster culture by fostering and monitoring Employee Safety Committee, First Aid Team, etc. as well as periodic safety, environmental, and sustainability awareness programs.
  • Ensure the successful delivery, completion, and tracking of all required EHS and Sustainability training.
  • Lead an effective EHS Management System including all required elements such as internal / external audits and inspections and serve as a primary liaison between government agencies and Divisional, and Corporate EHS.
  • Develop, justify and adhere to EHS budget for site and monitor spend ensuring cost savings opportunities are identified and implemented in order to hit relevant Funding the Growth initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant EHS related government and company standards such as permitting, auditing, and all reporting obligations. Execute compliance projects as needed.
  • Monitor contractor compliance in regard to site policy, as well as federal and state regulations.
  • Drive engagement by developing and implementing programs that engage local team members, empowers local voices, and raises awareness in the areas of environment, health, safety, and sustainability to support site strategic plans and targets.
  • Support and oversee the investigation of all EHS related incidents ensuring all risk reduction, and corrective/ preventive actions are identified and completed in a timely manner.
  • Support the Quality and GMP by leading standard compliance, as needed.
  • Reviews safety and work practices at plant level to proactively identify and mitigate risks.
  • Conduct incident investigations and causal mapping with other members of the team.
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with facility environmental permits and acts as a primary liaison with government inspectors.
  • Conducts routine site reviews with leadership team to define site-specific EHS goals and monitor progress.
  • Develops and leads site specific EHS improvement initiatives such as waste reduction, injury reduction, and improved employee involvement.
  • Provides prompt and complete communications with corporate EHS personnel regarding incidents and spills as required by corporate requirements.
  • Conducts and accurately documents routine EHS (including security) audits and inspections.
  • Develop, implement, and manage appropriate emergency response programs including ensuring proper training was conducted and drills completed.
  • Manages the collection, storage, transportation and shipping of hazardous waste and non-hazardous waste streams.
  • Facilitates the return to work of injured workers and assist in the management of workers compensation claims.
  • Maintain facility roadmap and drive EHS through leading indicators.
  • Facilitate monthly EHS training as required by Voyant standards.
  • Mandatory OHS Act training, and other mandatory local, provincial, and federal training.
  • Develop and promote programs to educate first level Supervisors and Managers to effectively instruct employees.
  • Manage contracted services and support corporate guidelines.
  • Perform audits, reporting, and investigations.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering, Technology, Safety, Environmental Science or Management. (Required)
  • Bachelor's Degree (Required)

Experience Qualifications

  • 4-6 years Manufacturing environment. (Required)
  • 4-6 years EHS (Required)
  • 1-3 years Environmental, health, and safety compliance experience in a manufacturing or like industry. (Required)
  • 1-3 years Detailed knowledge and understanding of the OHS Act, WSIB, City of Toronto's Sewage Act and Transportation of Dangerous Goods/IATA (TDG), MOE Regulations (NPRI, Chemtrac), Health Canada's CEPA, Ontario Regulation 345 (Waste Regulation). (Required)
  • 1-3 years Teamwork, results-oriented and collaborative working style. (Required)
  • 1-3 years Strong communicator and influencer. (Required)
  • 1-3 years MS Office Products skills. (Required)

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient in compliance rules and regulations within OHS Act, MOE Regulations, WSIB, City of Toronto Sewage Act, TDG, and other hazardous material regulations including knowledge of reporting requirements, waste characterization, wastewater, permitting, and release reporting. (Medium proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications
