What is the opportunity?
To provide full 'first line of defence' trade support coverage to the Futures trading desks in multiple time zones and markets. The incumbent will work in the Futures Clearing Department and will be cross trained to assist in the Client Services Department as required. Responsibilities include the proper clearance and allocation of all exchange traded futures and options on futures for RBC Dominion Securities Inc. Additional tasks include T+1 position and money balancing to exchanges and correspondent brokers, proper recording and notification of option exercise and assignments, margin and payment processing, General Ledger, and regulatory items and other clearing related items.
What will you do?
Process Management/Clearing Services:
- Work daily with exchange clearing systems (TMS, SEALS, SOLA, XTP) to claim and allocate trades. Trade input will be completed as required
- Research and resolve trade discrepancies, and respond to customer queries
- Report on end of day breaks, escalate any unresolved breaks to reporting manager
- Working closely with team members in Client Services, and Brokerage Conduct root-cause analysis of any clearing exceptions identified, ensuring breaks do not reoccur
- Develop an in-depth understanding on balancing (position, money) to exchanges and brokers, and complete required reconciliations daily
- Process position transfers, deliveries, margin calls with clearing house and brokers
- Process option expiries – exercise and assignments, process GL entries to balance internal accounts
- Ensure timely dispatch of invoices/payments, regulatory reporting and responses to clearing inquiries received in group inboxes.
- Become proficient with exchange fees and rates. Specifically, ensure a full understanding of Montreal Exchange fee and incentive programs.
- Ensure that daily, monthly and quarterly procedures, as detailed in the group's repository and Standing Orders, are strictly observed
- Manage queries into Give-ins, Give-ups, ensure accuracy in configuration of DOCS driven static data. Work closely with FEM to resolve Give-up fee issues
- Perform UAT for Vendor or exchange software or hardware upgrades, development or technical process changes in coordination with the IT Team
- Timely reporting of all exchange file requirements for position maintenance, and Regulatory reporting obligations. Liaising and proactive monitoring of all trades executed with internal and external parties to ensure timely settlement at the correct counterpart. Ensuring that "Straight-Through-Processing" occurs, remediating any exception queues or static requirements which prevents STP from occurring.
- Regulatory reporting in all its forms, whether to Regulators, Exchanges, CCP's, Trade Repositories or other mandated agencies, poses potential reputational risk to RBC. It is the analyst's responsibility to ensure all daily tasks are performed in accordance with RBC policies and procedures and key controls, and that all relevant checklists are updated after completing daily tasks. Ensure any critical manual tasks are four-eyed by staff with appropriate knowledge and seniority.
- Cross train with all members of the Clearing team to ensure proper coverage for absences
- Cross-train and act as back-up for various Futures Client Services functions, including margin, Give-up agreements.
Other Responsibilities:
- Ensure that daily and monthly procedures, as detailed in the group's procedures and standing orders are strictly observed. Maintain and update operational procedures and PRIMA maps related to these functions on an ongoing basis.
- Proactively identify opportunities to further streamline processes. Recommend cost efficient and effective controls for Futures trade processing with the introduction of new processes, products and systems. Initiate and implement recommendations for automation.
- Perform system troubleshooting and develop technology tools (e.g., AIDEN, AI, Agentic AI, VBA macro) as required to support trade validation/reconciliation responsibilities seamlessly
What do you need to succeed?
- 1 year of relevant experience within Futures
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills
- Strong emotional intelligence and time management skills that support effective collaboration in fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environments
- High degree of accuracy, attention to detail, strong organizational and analytical skills combined with ability to explain complex concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
- Experience delivering results through effective teamwork and as an individual, including ability to support colleagues, share knowledge openly, and adapt working style to complement team dynamics
- Collaborative problem-solving mindset with demonstrated ability to ask insightful questions, think critically about complex issues, and contribute meaningfully to group decision-making processes
- Natural curiosity and initiative in learning new processes, systems and technology through collaboration with subject matter experts and peer-to-peer knowledge sharing
- Comfort building relationships and liaising confidently with all organizational levels, from operational peers to senior leadership, fostering positive working relationships across functions
- Knowledge of Futures/Options products, trading practices and trading terminology
- Above average knowledge of MS Excel (including pivot tables, VLOOKUP's, formulas) as well as MS Office suite
