Fortinet / Network Specialist
for a
12-month contract
position with its Ottawa-based customer.

Work Location

Hybrid (2 days per week onsite in Ottawa)

Key Tasks

  • Administer, maintain and optimize the Fortinet ecosystem, including FortiEMS (Endpoint Management Server), FortiFirewalls, FortiSwitches, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer, FortiAuthentictor and FortiWAPs and FortiClient.
  • Provide technical direction and oversight to the managed services team responsible for firewall and switch operations.
  • Perform hands-on configuration, troubleshooting, and optimization of all Fortinet systems as required.
  • Act as the primary internal point of contact for all Fortinet infrastructure matters.
  • Ensure the stability, performance, and security of network and security systems.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and vendors to manage incidents, changes, and upgrades.
  • Document configurations, processes, and operational standards.

Key Qualifications (top 3 must haves)

  • Advanced Fortinet expertise
    – specifically hands-on experience with:
  • Fortinet firewalls
    (configuration, troubleshooting, deployment)
  • Fortinet switches
  • Fortinet EMS (Endpoint Management Server)
    administration
  • FortiManager
  • FortiAnalyzer
  • FortiAPs.
  • FortiAuthenticator
  • FortiClient
  • Hands-on technical leadership
    – the ability to
    lead and coordinate a managed services team
    while still performing direct technical work when needed.
  • Strong networking foundation
    – solid understanding of
    core network concepts
    (routing, switching, VPNs, VLANs, and security policies) to ensure reliable and secure operations across the environment.

Qualifications

  • Advanced experience with Fortinet technologies, including:
  • Fortinet firewalls (configuration, troubleshooting, deployment)
  • Fortinet switches
  • Fortinet EMS administration
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs, security policies).
  • Experience working with or managing third-party managed services providers (MSPs).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a technical leadership role.
  • Excellent communication and coordination abilities.
  • Formal Education and/or Certification(s) and Experience:
  • Minimum: college diploma in computer science with five years' relevant experience, or the equivalent
  • Preferred: University degree in the above fields and/or additional training, such as Microsoft Fortinet certification and/or specific education in the areas of network configuration, virtualization and hardware/software configurations.

Assets

  • Fortinet NSE certification(s) considered an asset.
  • Experience in enterprise or public-sector network environments.
