Job Overview

We are looking for a dedicated, patient, and encouraging Tutor to provide one-on-one academic support for a bright 11th-grade student with autism. He currently attends an interaction classroom but also participates in regular school classes for Art, Communication Technology (Coding), and Math.

He is a well-behaved, polite young boy with a phenomenal memory, a love for puzzles, art, music, and math, and strong potential when given the right guidance. He is verbal and capable of phrase speech, allowing him to answer questions and express his needs, though he is still developing the ability to hold conversations with the help of his speech-language pathologist.

The right tutor will provide individualized academic instruction while also helping him stay engaged, structured, and motivated after school. Our goal is to strengthen his academic skills and independence so that, in the coming years, he may be ready to pursue college studies in art or coding, whichever path he chooses or is most interested in.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one tutoring 2–3 times per week (2 hours per session) in subjects such as Art, Math, Language Arts or Coding.
  • Support learning of integers, arithmetic, money concepts, reading comprehension, etc and adapting lessons to his interests and abilities.
  • Create engaging, hands-on lessons that reinforce confidence and build curiosity.
  • Maintain clear structure and expectations during sessions while keeping learning fun and rewarding.
  • Communicate regularly with parents about progress, challenges, and strategies that work best.
  • Encourage communication, problem-solving, and independence during sessions.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience tutoring or teaching students with autism or diverse learning needs.
  • Strong background in Math, Coding, or Art education preferred.
  • Excellent communication, patience, and empathy.
  • Ability to create clear lesson plans and adapt instruction to an individual learner's pace.
  • Passion for education, neurodiversity, and helping students reach their potential.

About the Student

He is curious, gentle, and eager to learn. He enjoys structure, responds well to encouragement, and has a natural talent for memory-based learning and visual subjects. He thrives when given clear guidance, consistent expectations, and lessons that make him feel successful.

Schedule

  • 2–3 evenings per week (after school)
  • 2 hours per session
