Your Opportunity

Under the supervision of the Manager, Infrastructure, the Infrastructure Technician (Systems & Backup) supports the College's data center and server environment, with a focus on system administration, backup/recovery, and storage solutions. This role is responsible for ensuring reliable, secure, and recoverable systems, including file, print, and application services. The Technician also provides technical guidance to Okanagan College faculty, staff and students on related matters.

Functions and Duties

  1. Administer and support server environments including Windows, Linux, and VMware systems.

  2. Manage enterprise backup and recovery solutions, ensuring availability and integrity of critical systems and data.

  3. Administer file, print, and application servers.

  4. Support cloud-connected systems and hybrid datacenter services.

  5. Implement and monitor system security controls, including patch management and antivirus solutions.

  6. Perform server hardware and software upgrades.

  7. Maintain system documentation, configurations, and asset inventories.

  8. Conduct server and backup audits and provide recommendations.

  9. Participate in planning and execution of system improvements and lifecycle replacements.

  10. Provide guidance to new or inexperienced members of the team.

  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Graduation from a two-year post-secondary program in a related area.
  • Minimum of four years of related experience.
  • Cloud architecture certification, Microsoft MCSE, CCNA and VMware or equivalent certification is desirable.

  • Superior attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to travel to other campus locations as well as a valid Class 5 driver's license
  • Physically capable of completing bending, reaching, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds)
