We're looking for an Intermediate or Senior Underwriter, Surety, to join our growing team
What you'll do here:
Manage a diverse portfolio of new and existing contract surety accounts while liaising with brokers and clients to achieve growth and profitability targets for the B.C. Region.
Determine and establish surety support limits, credit risk, and exposure by evaluating relevant underwriting information from virtual and in-personal meetings, qualitative and financial statement analysis, and contract evaluation.
Negotiate terms and conditions for complex bonds and accounts while delivering solutions in a professional and responsive manner.
Prioritize workflow to maximize productivity, meet deadlines, and respond within service level expectations.
Develop broker relationships and marketing strategies to further new business opportunities.
Actively contribute to underwriting and sales meetings to support management in identifying and launching new programs and initiatives.
Maintain a strong knowledge of construction industry trends, market conditions, and current challenges and opportunities by actively participating in industry functions, forums, and events.
Provide support to our clients and business partners as we help build the province together.
What you bring to the table:
University degree/College diploma in Finance, Accounting, or Business or any combination of equivalent education and experience.
Must have experience in contract surety, commercial banking, or credit analysis, with a minimum of 18 months required for an intermediate role and at least 3 years for a senior underwriter position.
Good understanding of financial and accounting principles, commercial lending, and corporate financial statements.
Strong analytical thinking with effective communication and problem-solving skills.
A proven track record of building relationships with clients and other key business relationships.
High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability.
Self-motivated, detail- and results-oriented, and customer-driven.
Excellent organizational skills and intermediate computer skills: MS Office Suite.
Understanding of contract bond underwriting concepts, practices and procedures, bond wordings/obligations, construction processes would be an asset.
Experience dealing with clients/contractors, brokers, company executives, bankers, and attorneys would be an asset.
No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.

Salary of the successful candidate will typically be positioned between the following range, taking into consideration a number of factors including prior experience, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, location and internal equity:
