We're looking for an Intermediate or Senior Underwriter, Surety, to join our growing team

What you'll do here:

• Manage a diverse portfolio of new and existing contract surety accounts while liaising with brokers and clients to achieve growth and profitability targets for the B.C. Region.

• Determine and establish surety support limits, credit risk, and exposure by evaluating relevant underwriting information from virtual and in-personal meetings, qualitative and financial statement analysis, and contract evaluation.

• Negotiate terms and conditions for complex bonds and accounts while delivering solutions in a professional and responsive manner.

• Prioritize workflow to maximize productivity, meet deadlines, and respond within service level expectations.

• Develop broker relationships and marketing strategies to further new business opportunities.

• Actively contribute to underwriting and sales meetings to support management in identifying and launching new programs and initiatives.

• Maintain a strong knowledge of construction industry trends, market conditions, and current challenges and opportunities by actively participating in industry functions, forums, and events.

• Provide support to our clients and business partners as we help build the province together.

What you bring to the table:

• University degree/College diploma in Finance, Accounting, or Business or any combination of equivalent education and experience.

• Must have experience in contract surety, commercial banking, or credit analysis, with a minimum of 18 months required for an intermediate role and at least 3 years for a senior underwriter position.

• Good understanding of financial and accounting principles, commercial lending, and corporate financial statements.

• Strong analytical thinking with effective communication and problem-solving skills.

• A proven track record of building relationships with clients and other key business relationships.

• High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability.

• Self-motivated, detail- and results-oriented, and customer-driven.

• Excellent organizational skills and intermediate computer skills: MS Office Suite.

• Understanding of contract bond underwriting concepts, practices and procedures, bond wordings/obligations, construction processes would be an asset.

• Experience dealing with clients/contractors, brokers, company executives, bankers, and attorneys would be an asset.

• No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
