The Opportunity:

BER is seeking an experienced professional in the building performance industry to serve as an ENERPro Technical Specialist. This individual will support our quality assurance process and act as a technical representative for BER's clients. The role includes reviewing energy models and providing technical support to clients. Additionally, this position supports BER's training services team through our B.E.S.T. Academy, assisting this department with developing technical training and resources in areas such as building energy modelling, HVAC design, and building science. Since BER operates services across Canada, being bilingual in English and French is an asset, along with experience in customer service and technical service delivery. In this role, you will help BER grow as a company, ensure we meet our corporate goals, strive to be our best, and continue serving our clients as The Pros Pro.

Duties & Responsibilities of the Role

  • Provide technical support to BER clients via phone, email & BER's client portal.
  • Conduct building evaluation services and customer outreach.
  • Perform professional services on behalf of BER clients, including consultations, residential energy modelling, and production of client reports.
  • Assistance with the development of training curriculum focused on commercial energy efficiency program and code programs, energy modelling, etc.
  • Represent BER at conferences, tradeshows and local industry-related events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience with green building and energy efficiency programs and standards such as NBC 2020 and NECB 2020, ASHRAE 90.1, LEED, NRCAN ERS, etc
  • Energy assessment and energy modelling experience using RETScreen, HOT2000, eQuest, EnergyPlus, IES, WUFI, etc
  • High degree of computer literacy, including fluency in MS Windows, Office, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with and performing takeoffs using architectural and engineering plans, details and specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of building science, HVAC, construction, energy efficiency programs and industry standards
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience in customer service and support

Additional Qualifications
(considered an asset)

  • HVAC Design and Load Calculations.
  • LEED / Phius  / IR, etc. certifications
  • Architectural or engineering degree or professional certification
  • Knowledge and experience with field tools (blower door, duct testing, commissioning, ventilation, IR, etc.), and performing field inspections, data collection and verification.
  • ASHRAE Building Energy Modelling Professional certification.
  • Current NRCAN QAS or RESNET QAD certification

This role reports explicitly to the Director of Operations. It is our mission to provide the best customer service in the industry, and this position is pivotal to that success. Given that BER is incorporated across Canada, we conduct most of our business virtually. Therefore, our employees can work from home. However, travel will be required for the quality assurance and fieldwork components of this position. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.

Compensation Range: $65K-$80K annually based on experience and years of service
