Reporting to the Manager of Long Range Planning, the Intermediate Planner, Long-Range Planning, will assist in a wide variety of research and policy development and implementation projects relating to the City's Official Plan, Secondary Plans, Neighbourhood Block Plans, conservation of cultural heritage resources, development monitoring and growth management. The Intermediate Planner, Long-Range Planning, will respond to inquiries and undertake work related to various Program grant and permit applications. On occasion, the Intermediate Planner, Long Range Planning may also be required to assist with responses to Provincial Planning initiatives affecting the City and provide comments on development applications including Site Plans, Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendments, Draft Plans of Subdivision/Condominiums, present Planning Reports to City Council and Committees of Council and prepare required implementation documents.

This position will involve time working at City Hall and time working from home, to be set out in a Work From Home Agreement, with periodic evening meetings.

Qualifications

  • Applicants are required to have a post-secondary degree in Planning, Geography or a related field
  • Be a full member, in good standing, or be in the process of becoming a full member with the Ontario Provincial Planners Institute (OPPI)
  • A minimum of 3 years' policy planning experience in preferably a municipal planning environment
  • Thorough working knowledge of the Planning Act, the Provincial Policy Statement and contemporary planning principles and practices gained through academic training, work experience and continuous learning
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
  • Outstanding team player with a strong customer service attitude
  • Be a self-starter with the ability to work independently within a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Be able to organize and manage short and long term priorities and objectives to meet deadlines

WAGE/SALARY RANGE: $43.21 to $54.01 per hour (based on a 35-hour work week) plus benefits.
