Reports to: Laura Cunningham-Shpeley, Executive Director

Position Summary: The Communications, Strategy and Engagement Advisor supports the Communications team in helping the EFCL and Community Leagues build successful communications, engagement, storytelling, reputation, and brand awareness. They assist in ensuring that the EFCL effectively communicates its impact within the broader Community League movement.

The Advisor contributes to EFCL communications initiatives, assists with media relations, and supports leadership on story, reputation, and brand-related activities. They act as the Privacy Officer for the EFCL and work within the organization's guidelines, policies, and mission. This is a one-year temporary position providing coverage for a leave of absence.

Duties and responsibilities

Planning

  • Support the implementation of organizational and project-based communications and engagement plans under the direction of the Executive Director and/or designate.
  • Contribute ideas and feedback to EFCL communications strategies and initiatives.
  • Assist in developing project timelines, workflows, and deliverables to ensure communications activities are completed on schedule.
  • Track and report on the performance and reach of communications efforts.
  • Help maintain communications systems, tools, and processes to ensure efficiency and consistency across projects.

Operations

  • Coordinate day-to-day communications activities and assignments for EFCL programs and initiatives.
  • Support the production and sharing of EFCL storytelling, marketing, newsletter and communications materials.
  • Assist with website and intranet updates, social media management, and newsletter production.
  • Provide design and technical assistance for EFCL resources and projects as needed.
  • Liaise with contractors and vendors for specific communications and design projects under supervision.
  • Compile and organize statistics and reports on EFCL communications, events, and programs.
  • Support administrative tasks related to EFCL's digital platforms, including content uploads, data entry, and light troubleshooting.
  • Oversee privacy questions as the Privacy Officer for the EFCL.

League Support and Resource Development

  • Assist in preparing communications and technical materials for EFCL and Community League meetings and events.
  • Support the delivery of mentorship and learning opportunities, including updating learning platform content and resources.
  • Maintain and organize EFCL's online Resource Library content.

Relationship Support

  • Collaborate with EFCL service providers, Community Leagues, and partners to ensure timely and high-quality communications support.
  • Maintain positive relationships with Leagues, partners, and contractors through responsive and professional communication.

Employment DetailsTerm: 12-month temporary, full-time contract (leave coverage).Schedule: hours per weekWork Location: Hybrid — combination of remote work and EFCL office (Edmonton).Compensation: $66,450-$70,375 annually, commensurate with experience.Benefits:

Communications ExecutionContent Development: Contribute to newsletters, website articles, and storytelling materials that highlight EFCL's work and impact.Social Media Support: Assist with scheduling, posting, and engagement tracking across EFCL's digital channels.Privacy Oversight: Serve as EFCL's Privacy Officer, supporting compliance with privacy standards and best practices.5. Community and Learning SupportEvent Coordination: Support mentorship sessions, League meetings, and other engagement events.Resource Management: Help maintain EFCL's Resource Library and learning platform materials.Knowledge Sharing: Assist in updating training materials and ensuring accessibility of learning resources.6. Data and ReportingMetrics Collection: Gather statistics related to communications reach, engagement, and outcomes.Analytics Interpretation: Summarize insights to support continuous improvement in communications strategies.7. Foundational KnowledgeCommunity League System: Awareness of the Edmonton Community League movement and its communications needs.Communications Practices: Understanding of storytelling, marketing, and brand consistency in the non-profit context.City of Edmonton: Awareness of the city's political leadership, trends and events that may affect the EFCL and the Community League movementPrivacy and Accessibility: Working knowledge of privacy, accessibility, and inclusion principles.
