We are seeking a dedicated Machine Operator to join our manufacturing team in Surrey, BC. This role is vital in ensuring the efficient production of high-quality sleep products that meet our company standards and customer expectations. Job Summary

The tape edge machine operator plays a crucial role in the mattress manufacturing process by skillfully operating a specialized sewing machine that deftly attaches durable border tape to the edges of mattresses. This position requires a range of essential responsibilities, beginning with the careful setup of the machine. The operator detailed selects the appropriate settings and makes precise adjustments tailored to different mattress sizes, ensuring that each piece is crafted with attention to detail.

Throughout the production process, the operator must perform quality control inspections, examining every seam for integrity and consistency, and ensuring that the final product meets the highest standards of craftsmanship. In addition, the operator is proactive in conducting routine maintenance, which includes cleaning and lubricating the machine's intricate components, as well as promptly addressing any minor mechanical issues.

RESPONSABILITIES

  • Follow the production schedule for pieces to produce and assemble by obtaining accurate component supplies for work workstation
  • Adjust machine settings for different mattress sizes and materials
  • Ensure mattress is closed with tight taping and any defective taping on mattresses is corrected prior to being inspected and wrapped for shipment
  • Inspect finished product for quality and accuracy
  • Perform routine maintenance on the machine to ensure proper functioning
  • Communicate with supervisor and team members to coordinate production schedule
  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents
  • Keep work area clean and organized
  • Meet daily production quotas and goals - Complete all necessary paperwork or production-related documentation in an accurate or timely manner as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Skill labour training in machine operation is an asset, but not required.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in operating sewing tape edge or similar machinery
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality products
  • Good eye-hand coordination
  • Knowledge of different types of mattress borders and stitching techniques
  • Expertise in adjusting machine settings to achieve desired stitch length and tension
  • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving machine malfunctions
  • Ability to maintain and repair the tape edge machine as needed
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment
  • Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift heavy materials
