The Opportunity

We're looking to fill a Senior Analyst, Financial Crimes position at RFA Bank of Canada

Reporting to the Manager of Financial Crimes Operations, the successful candidate will be responsible for AML/ATF activities including adjudicating name screening & transaction monitoring alerts, investigating and escalating unusual transactions to mitigate ML/TF and sanctions risks.

Core Responsibilities

As the Senior Analyst, Financial Crimes, you will Investigating and analyzing financial transactions to detect, prevent, and report suspicious activities related to money laundering, fraud, and other financial crimes as assigned by the management within the timelines set out in the departments. Specific responsibilities include: 

  • Conduct detailed investigations of flagged transactions or accounts, gathering evidence and documentation to support findings.
  • Use data analysis tools and techniques to detect patterns, trends, and anomalies in financial transactions that could indicate potential criminal activity.
  • Prepare, review, and submit Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) in accordance with regulatory timelines.
  • Perform Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) on high-risk customers.
  • Investigate matches against sanctions list and transaction monitoring alerts escalated by Junior Analysts.
  • Provide guidance and training to Junior Analysts on investigative techniques, regulatory requirement and industry best practices.
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently within the AML team and with other departments e.g. Credit, Customer Service etc.
  • Identify opportunities to improve AML processes, tools, and methodologies.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of money laundering and terrorist financing issues, including policies, procedures, legislation and regulations, industry best practice, criminal typologies and developing trends.
  • Perform other responsibilities and assist with special projects, as required.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • 3+ years' experience in financial industry (preferably AML related)
  • Sound knowledge of AML/ATF related processes
  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred
  • Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (CAMS) designation preferred

  • Good understanding of AML/ATF issues, specifically previous experience with alert and transaction monitoring activities
  • Strong analytical skills required to organize and analyze multiple, complex data sets 
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Self-starter with the ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Computer Literate in MS Office applications
