The Department of Families is seeking highly motivated and empathetic individuals to fill an Employment and Income Assistance (EIA) Counsellor position within Morden area.
Candidates who are currently enrolled in post-secondary education in Social Services, who will be graduating in the next six (6) months are encouraged to apply. Candidates that do not meet all essential criteria may be considered for development opportunities (underfill) at a commensurate rate of pay (SP1-SP2) and duties may be modified accordingly. The expectation of the successful candidate would be to achieve the full working level based on a developmental learning plan.

Conditions of Employment:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Must have a valid full stage Class 5 driver's licence and the ability to travel within the Province of Manitoba
- Must be available to work evenings, weekends and statutory holidays on occasion
- Must provide current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search)
- Must provide current and satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check
- Must provide current and satisfactory Adult Abuse Registry Check
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Post-secondary education in the social services field. This may include a certificate, diploma or degree. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience within the social services field may be considered.
- Experience working with individuals/families from diverse backgrounds (cultural, financially disadvantaged, persons with disabilities, socially disadvantaged, newcomers, etc.) who may face multiple barriers and challenges such as addictions, mental illness, disability and employment.
- Ability to manage conflict in a calm, assertive and respectful manner.
- Strong English written communication skills.
- Effective English verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to independently problem-solve with understanding and empathy while also ensuring that Legislation and policy are appropriately and equitably applied.
Desired:
- Case management experience in a social service setting.
- Knowledge of Employment and Income Assistance programs through awareness and/or lived experience.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in French.
