This position is temporary until March 2026. 

Health Information Technology Services (HITS) is a service based business unit delivering healthcare IT solutions to Hamilton Health Sciences and various healthcare partners.  The HITS team uses technical expertise to offer practical, sustainable and high quality solutions to the Hospital, support HHS in achieving our vision of Best Care for All.

The Application Specialist (EPIC) is responsible for the administration of EPIC including configuration and administration of the software system in support of end user, design and develop custom software solutions using a wide variety of development tools and database technologies, ensuring that appropriate standards, education, processes, systems and structures are applied. Application Specialists impact all clinical and non-clinical processes across HHS and its partners.
Using their expertise, the Application specialist (EPIC) provides consultation services for Departments, vendors and projects.
Reporting to one of the Manager, Applications, Epic Applications Specialist will learn and support HHS's Epic Applications, analyze and troubleshoot problems, and optimize Application use and improve business processes. Epic Certification within 4 months of hire is required or proof of active certification with CEE's is required to maintain position.

  • Successful completion of either a University Degree or College Diploma in a Computer Science or a Health-related discipline.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hospital information systems or hospital operational experience
  • Demonstrated planning, analytical and interpretative skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision, exceptional attention to detail and perform consistent work product validation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team and strong commitment to the client. Maintain a professional attitude in demanding situations
  • Demonstrated expertise with Microsoft products, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, Visio, Access, Eclipse and other tools as necessary
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize initiative, vision, independent thinking and creative problem-solving abilities to implement project plans and issue resolution
  • Demonstrated proficiency in time management, ability to work effectively under time pressure to meet deadlines, balance work priorities and resolve problems in a timely manner
  • Demonstrated ability to relate and work with employees at all levels of organizations, including the most senior levels within the healthcare field
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively execute project plans with stringent timelines
  • Demonstrated understanding of the data interrelationships and dependencies among the various health information systems e.g. decision support systems, electronic health records, order entry, etc.
  • Strong working knowledge of clinical systems and administrative departments, operations and core clinical/process workflows would be an asset
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education, professional development and life-long learning
  • Possess and demonstrate emotional intelligence
  • Possess a working knowledge of software applications and modules and a commitment to learning the processes, basic building blocks and intricacies of each application
