The Opportunity

WSP is currently seeking a Senior Project Manager to join our Energy team in British Columbia  WSP is a global leader in the delivery of energy solutions to meet the increasing demand for safe, secure, and sustainable energy.  In this role, you will help bring WSP's vast expertise, experience, and innovation to support our clients, industries and communities, in the energy industry.

This position will be responsible for overseeing one large or multiple smaller projects in terms of deliverables as agreed to with client for Energy projects. Included within the responsibilities are driving the execution of programs and/or projects, working within the constraints of budget, schedule, and scope while managing risk and ensuring adherence to established processes and methodologies, and proactive project/client management.  Additionally, you will be focused on enabling the growth of our business and strengthening our market position. Your proven track record and experience in project management, client relationship management, and account management will be key to success in this role.

What you can expect to do here

  • Make recommendations and be involved with important decision making on highly technical and complex aspects of WSP projects. Able to put together rough concepts for execution by others;
  • Actively leads project planning, resourcing, staffing, de-staffing, supply and subcontract management;
  • Prepare and execute Project Management Plans including Work Plans, Risk Management Plans, Safety Plans, Quality Plans, and Communications Plans;
  • Define, Develop and Document multiple dependent or independent Project Budgets & Schedules, approve changes to baseline / estimates and new forecasted dates;
  • Responsible for defining scope, and creating WBS, verifying scope with client and following procedures to monitor and control changes on project;
  • Reviewing design, engineering and procurement schedules to ensure compliance with project schedule, estimate and procurement plan;
  • Proactively manage deadlines and ensure appropriate communication is provided (to relevant parties) when schedule and cost conflicts arise;
  • Assess project resources' capability to accomplish current and future assigned work and initiate actions as required to meet commitments;
  • Mentoring and instructing of team members on design requirements, schedules, cost estimates, etc. as required on projects;
  • Ensures project results meet requirements regarding technical quality, reliability, schedule and cost;
  • Reviews drawings, budgets and contractor quotations for cost optimized contracts and profitability;
  • Collaborate and participate in business development activities including opportunity identification, proposal development, and contract negotiations;
  • Building mutually beneficial internal/external client relationships through the relentless pursuit of excellence, including regular touch points and utilizing feedback loops in place to ensure project expectations are being met;
  • Work closely with the leadership team to strategize growth and maximize EBITDA for the BU;
  • Work with business Operations and Finance to analyze financial performance, identifying areas for cost savings and efficiency gains;
  • Awareness of all legal, insurance, lien, and claim issues that manifest and advise of pertinent updates;
  • Building an inclusive, high performance culture based on respect and support;
  • Manage diverse stakeholder groups; and
  • Other duties as assigned/required.
  • Project management responsibilities include a solid understanding of:
    • Reporting and Scheduling
    • Revenue Forecasting
    • Budget Management
    • Staff Planning and Project Organization Designs
    • Supply Chain Management
    • Construction Support

 What you'll bring to WSP

  • Minimum years' experience in a Project Management or equivalent role; 
  • Strong external network and track record managing client relationships;
  • Completed formal training in project management, PMP certification preferred;
  • Engineering degree in a related discipline or technical diploma from post-secondary institution is an asset;
  • Previous experience in an EPCM environment in the energy industry is an asset;
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools (Power BI, SharePoint, Oracle);
  • Commitment to mentoring, training, and retaining a focused team; the foresight and ability to delegate accordingly;
  • Strong leadership capability as evidenced by demonstrable success in collaborative work environments;
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities, capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment;
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail;
  • A proven track record of completing projects on time and on budget with a high degree of client satisfaction;
  • Can work independently with minimal guidance; and
  • Fluently bilingual (English, French) is an asset.

Salary range (in British Columbia): $136,200- $187,200

The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. The salary range provided in this job posting may be subject to change for business purposes.
