The Role 

We are currently looking for a QC Level 1 Inspector to join our team at our Fabrication Shop in Fort Saskatchewan, AB. This position is perfect for someone who takes pride in precision and has a strong focus on quality and continuous improvement. The QC Level 1 Inspector will play an important role in supporting daily shop operations and ensuring all fabricated components meet OCL's and our clients' quality standards.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Perform visual testing (VT) on welds and flag any defectsCommunicate with welders after VT to identify defects, explain corrections, and confirm repairs are completeLog welder IDs and VT results in SpoolFab for traceabilityVerify weld IDs on piping match the drawings and weld mapsEnsure welder IDs are stamped or marked correctly on all pipingCheck heat numbers and ratings during fit-up against the master MTR log for complianceLog heat numbers in SpoolFabGenerate NDE requests (RT/UT/MT/PT) as requiredVerify consumables, filler metals, and shielding gas match the applicable WPSUpdate and submit inch-tracking sheets to management regularlyReview shop drawings to ensure dimensional and squareness checks are completed for each spoolScan and save shop floor drawings for documentation controlRedline drawings and weld maps in Bluebeam when necessaryWitness welder qualification tests and ensure records are properly maintainedSupport hydrotesting by verifying hydro packs, witnessing tests, and confirming records are completeVerify welder tickets are valid and qualified for approved procedures across projectsEnsure shop procedures are followed — rod sign-out sheets, oven temperatures, etc.Understand and sign off on applicable ITP checkpointsInspect pipe flanges for condition and compliance prior to shipmentVerify all spools are tagged properly and report ship loose items for transferAssist shop personnel with simple client specification requirementsReport shop issues or nonconformances to management in a timely manner

Skills/Experience/Qualifications

CWB Level 1 Welding Inspector Certification 1–3 years of experience in a fabrication or industrial construction quality control roleKnowledge of ASME, CSA, and API codes related to welding and pressure pipingFamiliarity with ITP (Inspection Test Plan) checkpoints and quality documentation requirementsProficiency using SpoolFab, Bluebeam, and MS Office applicationsAbility to interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, and weld maps accuratelyStrong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in record-keepingCapable of conducting visual inspections (VT) and identifying weld discontinuitiesAbility to work independently and in a team environment with multiple prioritiesExcellent written and verbal communication skills for clear reporting and collaborationCommitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and compliant shop environmentMust have reliable transportation to get to and from work
