Unifor is seeking to hire a temporary National Communications Representative to join our dynamic team in a fast-paced and creative environment. This position is based in the Atlantic Region, reporting to the Director of Communications. The right candidate has excellent writing skills and can deliver on a variety of communication needs to support collective bargaining, organizing campaigns and membership engagement.

The selected candidate will support and contribute to the goals of the union to advance progressive politics for all working people and defend workers' rights and human rights.

This is a unionized position with Unifor, and all rights and benefits are outlined in the collective agreement with CNRU.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Writing, producing and editing news stories, media releases, videos, backgrounders, campaign flyers, fact sheets, editorials, print, digital advertising,
  • Taking photographs, iPhone videos and working with freelance videographers to produce high impact videos to support and promote the work of the union,
  • Producing and streaming events on Facebook Live,
  • Providing strategic communications advice and expertise,
  • Media relations, including timely responses to media inquiries, coordination of media interviews for Unifor spokespeople and organizing media events,
  • Contributing to multiple social media platforms and accounts to ensure high impact and quality content to build member engagement.

Position Requirements:

  • Post-secondary diploma or university degree in a relevant field (i.e. Journalism, Communications, Public Relations) or significant relevant work experience in a trade union or comparable communications role;
  • Understanding of, or experience with a trade union, collective bargaining, and labour-based campaigns;
  • Proven experience with social media, media relations, and issues management;
  • Excellent written, spoken, and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Effective time management, organization skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks with similar deadlines without compromising quality or accuracy;
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced deadline driven environment;
  • Ateam player who works well with a diverse group of elected leaders, members national and local staff, and community or labour organizations; and
  • Must be able to work weekends, flexible hours and travel on short notice.

Additional Skills considered to be an asset

  • Video editing skills;
  • Editorial writing experience ;
  • Proficiency in InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere Pro;
  • NationBuilder experience;
  • Proficiency in French or other languages.

Il s'agit d'un poste syndiqué, et tous les droits et avantages sociaux sont décrits dans la convention collective conclue entre Unifor et le Syndicat national des représentantes et représentants canadiens (SNRRC).

Les tâches et les responsabilités comprennent, sans s'y limiter, ce qui suit :

  • Rédiger, produire et réviser des articles sur l'actualité, des communiqués de presse, des vidéos, des documents d'information, des dépliants sur les campagnes, des fiches d'information, des articles de fond, des publicités imprimées ou numériques;
  • Prendre des photographies, réaliser des vidéos sur un iPhone et travailler avec des vidéographes pigistes à la production de vidéos percutantes afin de soutenir et de faire connaître le travail du syndicat;
  • Produire et diffuser des événements sur Facebook Live;
  • Fournir des conseils et une expertise en communications stratégiques;
  • Gérer les relations avec les médias, notamment répondre rapidement aux demandes des médias, coordonner les entrevues avec les médias pour les porte-parole d'Unifor et organiser des événements médiatiques;
  • Contribuer aux multiples plateformes et comptes de médias sociaux, en rédigeant des contenus percutants et de qualité afin de renforcer la participation des membres.

Exigences du poste :

  • Diplôme d'études postsecondaires ou universitaires dans un domaine pertinent (c.-à-d. journalisme, communications, relations publiques) ou expérience de travail pertinente et substantielle dans un syndicat ou avoir occupé un poste comparable en communication;
  • Compréhension ou expérience d'un syndicat, de la négociation collective et des campagnes syndicales;
  • Expérience avérée avec les médias sociaux, les relations avec les médias et la gestion de problèmes;
  • Excellentes compétences en communication écrite, orale et interpersonnelle;
  • Gestion du temps efficace, sens de l'organisation et capacité à gérer plusieurs tâches ayant des échéances similaires, sans compromettre la qualité ou l'exactitude;
  • Capacité à mener plusieurs tâches en même temps et à travailler dans un milieu où les activités se déroulent rapidement et où les délais sont serrés;
  • Avoir l'esprit d'équipe et travailler efficacement avec un groupe diversifié de dirigeantes et de dirigeants élus, avec les membres du personnel national et local et avec des organisations communautaires ou syndicales;
  • Être en mesure de travailler les fins de semaine, selon un horaire flexible et de voyager à court préavis.

Autres compétences considéré un atout :

  • Compétences en montage vidéo;
  • Expérience en rédaction d'articles de fond;
  • Maîtrise des logiciels InDesign, Illustrator et Premiere Pro;
  • Expérience avec le logiciel NationBuilder;
  • Maîtrise du français ou d'autres langues.
