For more information about the Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services, please visit our website at: The Police Review Commission (PRC) will be responsible for overseeing the police complaints process for all police services in Alberta and will have approximately 150 staff. Following implementation, the PRC will be at the forefront of leading and supporting police services through a significant change in process and philosophy. Role Responsibilities Are you a strategic communicator with a passion for public service and community engagement? The Public Response Commission (PRC) is seeking a Communications Advisor to help advance its mandate through impactful communications, media relations, and stakeholder engagement.Reporting to the Manager of Community Connections, the Communications Advisor plays a vital role in shaping and delivering clear, consistent, and proactive messaging that supports the PRC's priorities. This position contributes to both internal and external communications, coordinates media responses, and ensures alignment across all public-facing materials.Key Responsibilities:Strategic Communications & Media Relations•    Develop and deliver communications strategies aligned with PRC priorities.•    Prepare media materials including press releases, statements, speeches, and social media content.•    Coordinate news conferences, media availabilities, and high-profile case communications.•    Monitor media inquiries and support timely, coordinated responses.•    Support communications for the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT).Project Coordination & Team Support•    Lead planning and logistics for public announcements, consultations, and events.•    Coordinate timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder input for communications projects.•    Mentor junior staff and contribute to team planning and resource discussions.Stakeholder Engagement•    Support engagement with diverse communities, organizations, and cultural groups.•    Assist with organizing formal and informal engagement events and logistics.•    Collaborate with the PRC's Community and Indigenous Liaisons to foster meaningful partnerships.Leadership & Continuous Improvement•    Promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in all communications practices.•    Contribute to knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement of communications tools and strategies.•    Represent the PRC in meetings and act on behalf of the manager when required.Please click on this link to view the job description for this position.  APS Competencies Competencies are behaviors that are essential to reach our goals in serving Albertans. Qualifications Minimum Requirements:University education in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Political Science PLUS a minimum of 4 years of experience developing and executing media relations strategies.Equivalency:•    Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:•    1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or •    1 year of experience for 1 year of education.Required:•    Working knowledge of web-based communications tools, platforms, and best practices.•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and communications-related software (InDesign, Photoshop, etc.).•    Strong understanding of Privacy of Protection Act (POPA), Access to Information Act (AITA) and other relevant legislation. Assets:•    Demonstrated experience collaborating with government entities, public-sector organizations, or community-oriented institutions.•    Experience providing communications advice in a law enforcement environment.•    Knowledge of Indigenous engagement practices and cultural awareness.Minimum recruitment standards outline the minimum education and experience required for appointment to a job classification.
