The Accounting Assistant II is responsible for performing a wide range of accounting duties in the areas of general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, job costing, and payroll, as assigned. This position is also responsible for identifying and recommending process improvements to enhance efficiencies and overall customer service, and performing other related duties as assigned.

What You Do

  • Performs a wide range of accounts receivable functions, including preparing, entering and processing invoices and credit notes, collection, dealing with inquiries and resolving issues by contacting internal and external customers, etc.
  • Ensures all VFPA revenues are invoiced and coded accurately and in a timely manner. Maintains accounts receivable records
  • Performs a wide range of accounts payable functions, including preparing, entering and processing payments, dealing with inquiries and resolving issues by contacting appropriate internal and external customers, etc.
  • Ensures all VFPA payments are accurately coded and approved and processed in a timely manner.
  • Maintains accounts payable records
  • Performs all payroll processing functions in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Deals with inquiries and resolves issues by contacting appropriate internal and external customers, etc.
  • Ensures adherence to current legislation, internal payroll policies, and accounting principles and practices.
  • Maintains payroll records
  • Using the job costing module, coordinates and ensures information captured by the accounts receivable, accounts payable, purchasing, payroll and general ledger modules is accurate.
  • Prepares recovery invoices and reports. Sets up job costing codes
  • Performs reconciliation of accounts and remittances, creates and enters journal vouchers, prepares month-end and year-end reports, and conducts all period-end responsibilities, as assigned

What You Bring

  • Completion of a two year full-time diploma in accounting/finance from a recognized post secondary institution, or completion of equivalent level of the CGA or CMA Program, along with a minimum of three (3) years of related experience in an ERP environment in the areas of accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, job costing, general ledger and cash. Must have excellent computer skills in spreadsheet applications (Excel) and word processing applications (Word) and an understanding of database application.
  • Must be a customer oriented individual with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be a team player with the ability to work effectively and positively with both staff and outside contacts.
  • Must be highly analytical, with excellent organizational and problem solving skills, with the flexibility to adapt and respond to changing workloads and priorities.
  • Must be committed to a philosophy of continuous improvement in all work processes.
  • Requires an excellent command of the English language both oral and written.
