We are currently seeking empathetic, reliable, and skilled Personal Support Workers (PSWs) and Companions to join our team on a flexible, casual basis.
The Opportunity
This casual role is perfect for compassionate individuals seeking flexible scheduling to cover shifts, planned absences, and immediate client needs. You will be a vital link in maintaining the client's quality of life and social connection, ensuring seamless, high-quality care whenever it is needed.
Key Responsibilities
The Casual PSW/Companion will provide essential personal care, emotional support, and social engagement to clients in their private residences, adhering strictly to individualized care plans. Duties include:
- Assisting clients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, grooming, dressing, and mobility assistance.
- Providing meaningful companionship, engaging clients in hobbies, light recreational activities, and conversation.
- Assisting with safe patient transfers (e.g., use of mechanical lifts, walkers) and ensuring a safe environment.
- Performing light housekeeping, laundry, and assisting with meal preparation and feeding.
- Accompanying clients to appointments, community activities, and running essential errands.
- Documenting care provided and accurately reporting any changes in the client's physical, emotional, or cognitive status to the supervising manager.
- Providing medication reminders (but not administering medication, unless explicitly trained and certified).
Required Qualifications & Experience
To be considered for this critical role, applicants MUST meet the following criteria:
- Certification: Education/demonstrated experience in providing direct client care and companionship.
- Experience: Relevant experience in a home care, companionship, or community support setting is strongly preferred.
- Core Competencies: Demonstrated ability to be empathetic, patient, and reliable, with a focus on promoting client independence and dignity.
- Requirements:
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Ability to successfully complete a Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Reliable transportation and a valid Driver's License (preferred, as appointments and errands may be required).
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
