Case Manager, Housing Support
Full Time, Term to March 31, 2026
It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to broadly provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. TI has over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services. By incorporating the principles of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ), TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.
The incumbent provides direct support to individuals or families that are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, assist people to obtain suitable housing, and prevent homelessness when households are at risk of housing loss. They will provide short-term assistance and/or refer clients to appropriate internal and external services in order to prevent housing loss and/or to promote long-term housing retention and stability.
The incumbent assists people who may be living in emergency shelters or whose current housing situation is at risk, and for whom no residence has been identified
Responsibilities
- Make internal and/or external referrals.
- Complete housing applications with clients.
- Refer clients to income supports.
- Attend viewings for potential housing opportunites and assist with lease signings.
- Refer to cultural related services.
- Support with housing loss prevention.
- Promote long-term housing retention.
- Liaising with Social Services, landlords, utility companies, etc.
- Collaborate and meet with other provider's in the client's circle of care to identify issues, resolve problem and coordinate services.
- Maintain records and submit data into HIFIS.
- Assists clients in obtaining identification, filing taxes for the purposes of securing housing
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have knowledge of Inuit culture, values, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and traditional practices.
Ability to function effectively in a busy environment and stressful situations and work independently with a strong sense of focus. Is task-oriented, non-judging, and maintains a clear sense of client-service provider boundaries.
Commitment to a client-centered approach when working with Inuit. Maintaining up-to-date professional skills and knowledge through formal and informal training. Acting as an ambassador for TI within and outside the organization by creating an awareness of TI's programs and services. Maintaining awareness of, and compliance with, TI policies and procedures. Contributing to the organization's work through collaborative teamwork and participating in meetings and committees as required. At all times, working in a manner that preserves confidentiality and seeks to minimize risks for clients, employees and the organization. Familiarity with the socio-economic landscape as it pertains to Inuit. Knowledge of the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal housing support and service system of Ottawa. Outstanding organizational skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Community College in Human Service, Social Work or similar is required. Minimum three years' experience in delivering urban housing services to Inuit is preferred.
Proficient use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, video-conferencing platforms and electronic records management applications is required. A clear Vulnerable Sector Check with results acceptable to TI is required. Valid G Class Driver's License is required. Availability to work evenings and weekends is preferred. Fluent in English is required and ability to speak Inuktitut is preferred. First aid and CPR; non-violent crisis intervention training is preferred.

Salary and Benefits
- Salary range is $56,000 to $60,000
- ·TI provides paid sickness, personal and family sickness leave days, and a 24/7 confidential Employee and Family Assistance Plan.
- Vacation (earn 3 weeks/year).
