Meat Store Full Time Cash Office Cashier

Highland Packers Limited is a 100% Canadian, privately owned, meat processing and distribution company with country market. We have been providing Stoney Creek, the Golden Horseshoe and GTA with high-quality meat products for over 60 years. We are looking for a qualified individual to join our cash office and cashiers on a permanent, full-time basis. Please note, we are not a bus route, applicants must have their own reliable transportation.

Compensation:

  • Paid weekly on Thursday by direct deposit
  • Every Sunday off with rotating second day based on company needs
  • Competitive wages starting at $17.60/hour with a 2 year wage review program to be discussed with selected candidates for further consideration
  • Store discount card after 3 month probation
  • Medical/Dental and Specialty benefits (LTD, life insurance) after 3 month probation
  • Eligible to join pension plan of 3% match after 2 years of service

Responsibilities:

  • Open/close the cash office
  • Price changes in catapult
  • Counting/balancing cash trays
  • Printing cash, sales, specials, store and other reports as needed or requested
  • Set up weekly specials
  • Perform cash pickups with cashiers
  • Scheduling
  • Answering phones
  • Daily bank deposits
  • Cashier duties and other duties as required
  • Relief cashier duties in cash and carry

Skills and Qualifications

  • Previous retail sales experience preferred, especially in grocery or grocery store settings.
  • Familiarity with POS systems and basic cashiering functions is essential.
  • Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse customers.
  • Experience supervising or leading team members is advantageous but not required.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations accurately for cash handling and retail math tasks.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a friendly attitude and patience when dealing with various customer needs.
  • Knowledge of grocery store operations, merchandising, stocking, and product demos is beneficial.
  • Good phone etiquette for professional communication over the phone or in person.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.

Hours:

Candidates must be available to work scheduled 9 hour shifts Monday to Saturday between 630am-630pm. Store is closed Sunday. Candidates should be flexible in staying late, starting early, or working on scheduled days off should cashiers call in sick for shifts.
