Stopping the Violence Outreach Worker
Job Summary:
Supporting adults identifying as female and their dependent children who have experienced or are at risk of intimate partner abuse, threats, or violence. The current position is for 25hrs/week.
Reports to:
Clinical Supervisor
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide supportive brief interventions individually or in groups for clients who have experienced violence, abuse, or threats.
- Provide follow-up and support for family law cases.
- Provide educational opportunities, resource materials and referrals to clients who have experienced violence.
- Connect persons with existing services and resources that will promote safety and independence.
- Facilitate client (individual or group) training in violence prevention, problem-solving, communication, risk reduction and safety planning.
- Provide legal and resource information, crisis intervention, support and accompaniment to lawyers, MCFD where applicable, appointments and Family Court.
- Maintain current knowledge of issues and resources related to abuse and violence.
- Conduct culturally appropriate presentations and public awareness activities about services and issues.
- Assist clients with transportation and related activities.
- Maintain related records and statistics and produces reports as required.
Education, Training and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in a related discipline or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Strong assessment, crisis intervention, and communication skills.
- Experience in the helping professions is essential.
Job Skills and Abilities:
- Crisis intervention.
- Awareness and analysis of oppression.
- Excellent oral, written and computer skills.
- Sensitive and responsive to cultural and gender differences in the client population.
- Conviction of the capacity of people to change and grow.
- Ability to develop a mutually respectful partnership with persons served.
- Well-developed knowledge of community resources.
- Proven ability to work cooperatively with service providers in the community.
