Internal Job Posting: Mental Health Nurse Manager

We are currently inviting internal applications for the position of Mental Health Nurse Manager. Under the direction of the Director of Mental Health, this leadership role will oversee psychiatric care services, guide program development, and support staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality, culturally safe, and trauma-informed mental health care for our community.

Key Responsibilities
• Partner with the Mental Health Director to conduct needs assessments and lead planning for a safe consumption site, including community consultation and policy development.
• Supervise and support staff, including the Crisis Intake Worker, Outreach Worker, Mental Health Nurse, Psychiatry Clinic team, and others as programs expand.
• Liaise and collaborate with the Nova Scotia Health Opioid Recovery Team.
• Provide education and mentorship within scope of practice across mental health departments.
• Ensure strong communication and coordination of care with Cape Breton Regional Hospital and the IWK Health Centre.
• Oversee intake processes, ensuring alignment with Cape Breton Regional Hospital standards.
• Lead community engagement and build partnerships with agencies, government bodies, and cultural advisors.
• Work with the Mental Health Director to evaluate, expand, and strengthen programs.
• Conduct performance reviews and participate in staff recruitment in collaboration with HR.
• Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and confidentiality/privacy requirements.

Qualifications
• Current RN license in good standing with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing.
• Minimum three (3) years' experience as a registered nurse, preferably in mental health or psychiatric settings.
• Certificate in Mental Health Nursing or Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing from the Canadian Nurses Association, or willingness to obtain.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) / CPR certification.
• Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
• Strong knowledge of primary health care, social determinants of mental health, mental health promotion, disease prevention, counseling, and program planning.
• Demonstrated knowledge of etuaptmumk (two-eyed seeing), cultural safety, humility, and trauma-informed care.
• Excellent leadership, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Completed Criminal and Vulnerable Sector Records Check.
• Completed Child Abuse Registry Check.
• Mi'kmaw language proficiency is considered a strong asset.

Hours of work: Permanent, full-time (75 hours bi-weekly)
