Automotive Technician – Volkswagen & Audi

Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia

Harrington's is Halifax's premier independent shop specializing in Volkswagen and Audi vehicles. We combine dealership-level expertise with the personal service of a local business. As we grow, we're looking for skilled technicians, whether apprentices or Red Seal certified, who share our passion for German engineering.

The Role

As a Volkswagen/Audi Automotive Technician at Harrington's, you'll work exclusively on modern European vehicles, tackling everything from routine service to complex diagnostics and repairs. You'll play a key role in keeping our customers' vehicles running safely and reliably, while continually developing your skills in a hands-on, independent shop environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a full range of service, maintenance, and repairs on Volkswagen and Audi vehicles, from routine oil changes and brake service to advanced engine, transmission, and electronic system repairs.
  • Diagnose complex vehicle issues using factory-level diagnostic tools, software, and technical resources.
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, service manuals, and repair bulletins for European systems.
  • Conduct thorough inspections to identify safety, performance, and reliability concerns.
  • Fabricate or modify components as needed (welding/fabrication skills are a plus).
  • Communicate clearly with service advisors about repair needs, timelines, and recommendations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace.
  • Stay current with the latest Volkswagen/Audi technologies, systems, and repair techniques.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Apprentice (Level 1, 2, or 3) or Red Seal Automotive Service Technician (AST)
  • Experience with Volkswagen and Audi vehicles (dealership or independent shop preferred)
  • Proficiency with diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power tools
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and efficiency
  • Clear communication and customer-focused mindset
  • Ability to lift and handle automotive components safely

Preferred/Bonus Skills:

  • Welding or fabrication experience
  • Safety training (WHMIS, lift operation, welding)
  • Personal tools
