Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, lead, and evaluate recreation and leisure activities tailored to individual residents' needs, interests, and abilities, with a focus on those with dementia and responsive behaviours.
  • Identify triggers and support the development of personalized behavioural and recreation care plans.
  • Facilitate meaningful programs that promote emotional well-being, social connection, and cognitive stimulation.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining a monthly activity calendar that promotes consistent resident engagement.
  • Provide "in the moment" coaching and hands-on support to staff to effectively engage residents during episodes of responsive behaviour.
  • Encourage and model person-centered care, integrating families and residents into the planning and direction of recreational activities.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, or related field;
  • or
  • qualifications as outlined under Ontario Regulation 79/10 67(1,2,3).
  • Additional training or certification in Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA), U-First, PIECES, Montessori Methods, or Dementia Ability considered an asset.
  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience working with older adults in a long-term care or similar setting, specifically those with .
  • Demonstrated knowledge of dementia care, responsive behaviours, and person-centered engagement techniques.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and documentation skills.
  • Basic computer literacy; experience with electronic documentation systems such as Point Click Care is an asset.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: $22.95 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 30 per week
