Position Overview
Strategic Group is seeking an experienced Manager, Development and Design. Supporting the Director of Development, the Manager, Development and Design will be responsible for executing the development of our projects through design, construction, and commissioning. Your goal is to utilize your creative and entrepreneurial approach to be part of a growing development team. You want to share your ideas to push for innovation. You desire to lead the development of development/construction plans and budgets for the execution of the Strategic Plan.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Leadership
- Focus and lead consultant and construction teams to ensure the success of projects.
- Provide review and insight to consultant designs to drive efficient and code compliant designs
- Create strong internal relationships to succeed in leading projects from concept to completion.
- Manage Request for Proposals (RFP) to ensure the best delivery and requirements are obtained. (Assisted by the Director of Developments)
- Support design schedules while monitoring status against deadlines.
- Complete any administrative type tasks that are required within the role.
Development & Construction Oversight
- Lead a team of design consultants from building conception to construction
- Skills in multi-family residential developments. (Building conversion experience is considered a valued asset).
- Develop and champion feasibility studies and land use opportunities for the development team while identifying opportunities for alternate land uses to further provide value to projects and properties.
- Research and recommend unconventional and creative designs and construction strategies.
- Deliver projects while reducing capital and operating costs to improve revenue streams.
- Evaluate and streamline consultant and authority deficiency lists to determine the relevance and alternate opportunities for efficient compliance.
External Stakeholder Relations
- Optimize external relationships including, architectural, engineering and city planners and engineers.
- Assist in permit applications, design presentations, and grant applications as required.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5-10 years experience in architecture.
- Experience in real estate development or equivalent.
- Have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Having CAD, Revit, Enscape experience is an asset.
- Knowledge of building drawings & systems (architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, sprinkler, HVAC) considered an asset.
- Knowledge of building construction, processes, and budgeting considered an asset.
- Experience tracking multiple projects.
- Ability to visit construction sites on a regular basis.
- Extremely strong communication & organization skills.
