This company applies digitalization of processes and advanced analytics to build a recycling system that enables efficient plastics recycling. The goal is to revolutionize the economics of recycled materials through innovative processing and materials technologies.
Overview of Role: The Manager of Engineering will be responsible for leading the engineering team. This includes overseeing both Process Development (internal prototyping and reliability) and Process Scale-up (external technology transfer and vendor collaboration) to ensure the smooth execution of all projects. The role will involve day-to-day management, technical guidance, and ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with R&D, Operations, and external partners, balancing hands-on technical oversight with strong people management skills.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have the following duties and responsibilities: Team Leadership & People ManagementManage, coach, and develop a team of engineers.Provide technical guidance and mentorship for prototyping, reliability, and scale-up projects.Allocate resources and assign projects based on business priorities.Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performance team culture. Project Execution & DeliveryOversee daily engineering activities for both prototyping and scale-up.Ensure project timelines, budgets, and deliverables are consistently met.Review engineering designs, documentation, and data analysis to ensure rigorous standards are maintained.Support team members in troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues. Process Development & PrototypingGuide the team in the design, construction, and testing of prototypes.Ensure that solutions are reliable, well-documented, and scalable for future use.Support the lifecycle management and preventative maintenance of internal systems. Scale-up & Technology Transfer SupportManage engineers who are collaborating with external vendors.Ensure effective communication and accurate knowledge transfer between internal teams and manufacturing partners.Monitor external site data and maintain clear, timely feedback loops. Cross-Functional CollaborationPartner with the R&D and Operations departments to align engineering efforts with overall company priorities.Provide regular updates on project status, risks, and resource needs to senior leadership.Ensure clear documentation and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are maintained for efficient knowledge transfer.
Requirements:
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g., Chemical, Mechanical, Process, or a related field).7+ years of engineering experience, including at least 2 years in a team leadership role.A strong track record of successfully managing technical teams through prototyping and scale-up stages.Hands-on problem-solving ability with experience across mechanical, chemical, and control subsystems.Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly translate technical issues to a variety of cross-functional stakeholders.Strong organizational and project management skills.Legally entitled to work in Canada and eligible for cross-border travel to the USA.
