Core Function
To assist teachers to meet the needs of exceptional students.

Report to School Principal

Description

  • Support the application of school board initiatives in schools
  • Coordinate the provision of central resource support to students identified by the School Resource Team;
  • Facilitate the provision of special education programs and services to exceptional pupils identified by the School Special Education Identification Placement and Review Committee and the System Special Education Identification Placement and Review Committee (Education Act R.S.O., 1989).
  • Collaborate with school staff in conducting educational assessments and in planning and implementing learning strategies to meet specific student needs;
  • Participate in professional development to enhance capacity and offer support to school

staff pertaining to special education information;

  • Coordinate and/or participate in scheduled meetings that may include, but are not limited to, school and/or system administrators and/or system resource personnel; and/or parent/guardians, for the purpose of providing and obtaining relevant information for students on an Individual Education Plan:
  • Maintain positive, constructive professional relationships with Board Administration, Instructional Services, Support Staff, parents/guardians and community and legal, medical and social service professionals;
  • Coordinate the daily activities of Educational Assistants including scheduling and allocation;
  • Perform responsibilities as per the Special Education Handbook.

Qualifications:

  • Membership in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers;
  • Special Education Certificate Part 1 (minimum);
  • Five years permanent teaching
  • Completed the Board's requirements for Religious Renewal or commitment to complete upon appointment.

Preference
will
be
given
to
the
candidate
who
possesses
the
following:

  • Demonstrated leadership experiences at the school and/or system level;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in the application of special education practices in the classroom
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • A willingness to learn and to lead

Placement on Teachers' Table of Salaries according to qualifications and experience. Allowance in accordance with collective agreement.
