Senior Research Assistant, Financing Solutions for Manitoba Retrofits

Senior Research Assistants are normally graduate students, or University of Winnipeg undergraduate students, employed to assist in the execution and evaluation of research projects in their area of study. The positions may oversee Research Assistants in areas such as the use of proper techniques, analysis, and documentation.

Senior Research Assistants work under the general supervision or direction of more senior researchers or faculty members, and are expected to exercise judgment in prioritizing, planning and organizing their own work within defined parameters.

Position Overview:

A Research Assistant (RA) is needed for a research project comparing administrative models for retrofit financing. The project is exploring options such as Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE), Pay-as-You-Go, and other loan or utility-linked mechanisms. The RA will conduct interviews with Manitoba Hydro, Efficiency Manitoba, and industry representatives (e.g., Red River Group, insurers, and lenders). This comparative analysis will identify pros, cons, and governance requirements for each administrative model, contributing directly to a community consultation on this topic in March 2026. They will work closely with the Manitoba Eco-Network and Sustainable Building Manitoba.

Duties:

• Assist with duties related to the production of articles, publications, reports and presentations.
• Prepare literature reviews.
• Assist in data collection, data entry, analysis and interpretation.
• Perform data/word processing, routine computations, and record keeping.
• Perform routine clerical and administrative duties to support research activities.
• Assist in the execution of surveys, focus groups, data integration and analysis.
• Maintain communications and outreach to research partners and sponsors.
• Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications:

• A Master's student in the area of either Economics, Environmental Studies, Development, Politics or Public Administration. A combination of coursework in more than one of these disciplines is preferred.
• Skilled in using Excel and experience using transcription software.
• Graphic Design experience is an asset but not required.
• The RA must be able to work independently and have the time to complete the work prior to project deadlines.

• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

The period of work will be from December 2, March 31, 2026, and the estimated total hours of work will be hours.
