This a temporary position ending November 21, 2026, with the possibility of extension.

This position has two main focuses. The first is transferring the knowledge gained through applied research to stakeholders including industry, business, practitioners, regulators and all Albertans. The second is engaging with stakeholders, including northern and Indigenous communities, in skill development and capacity building to support reclamation, restoration, reforestation and related environmental services in Alberta.

Please note this is a temporary position with the possibility of extension. This position is located at the NAIT Centre for Boreal Research in Peace River, Alberta. Peace River is a vibrant community of approximately 6,700 people in the heart of the Boreal Forest of Northwest Alberta. It offers a variety of urban amenities but with a small-town feel

Key Responsibilities:

• Organizing and coordinating workshops, seminars, and tours for industry, business, practitioners, and regulators.
• Engagement with northern and Indigenous communities to support training and business development in the natural resource sciences.
• Writing applied research-related technical notes and develop technical videos of value to practitioners.
• Promoting research extension through website and other multi-media and distance delivery technologies.
• Contributing to proposals to secure long term funding in support of research extension and forest education.
• Supervision of one or two additional REE staff and seasonal staff.
• Develop a business plan and annual work plans based on CBR and partner priorities.

Skills & Abilities:

• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Experience with seed and plant research

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in natural or biological science required.
• Experience in community outreach and/or education required.
• Experience with conveying scientific theories, practices and findings to layman required.
• Knowledge and experience working with northern and Indigenous communities preferred.

Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services, International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) or the Comparative Education Services (CES).

Remuneration: $61, $83,085.08 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification – Research Officer II).

This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
