Position Summary

The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for designing, maintaining, and optimizing Chatters' hybrid (on-premise and cloud) IT infrastructure. This includes managing servers, networks, security systems, and business applications that power both our retail locations and corporate operations.

The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, a proactive approach to systems management, and the ability to balance hands-on troubleshooting with long-term infrastructure planning. You'll ensure high system reliability, implement modern cloud and security practices, and mentor junior team members as we advance Chatters' IT roadmap.

What You'll Do
Infrastructure Management & Operations
  • Administer, monitor, and maintain core IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, storage, and cloud environments (Azure).
  • Manage and optimize Active Directory, Group Policy, Microsoft 365, and Exchange Online.
  • Manage and optimize Intune, Apple Business Manager, Meraki MDM, and Rogers/Shaw/Bell VOIP portals.
  • Oversee virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V) and ensure performance through monitoring, patch management, and capacity planning.
  • Support cybersecurity initiatives — including firewalls, VPNs, endpoint protection, vulnerability management, and PCI DSS compliance.
  • Maintain and enhance backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, providing timely escalation and communication to stakeholders.
Collaboration & Project Support
  • Partner with cross-functional teams — including Retail Operations, E-Commerce, and Finance — to align infrastructure solutions with business objectives.
  • Participate in infrastructure projects and deployments, including store rollouts, system migrations, and technology refreshes.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system configurations, architecture diagrams, and SOPs.
  • Automate recurring administrative tasks and infrastructure deployments to increase operational efficiency (PowerShell, Azure Automation, etc.).
Leadership & Continuous Improvement
  • Mentor junior IT staff, providing technical guidance and supporting skill development.
  • Collaborate with the Director on strategic IT initiatives, including cloud transformation, identity management, and network modernization.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices, making recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Participate in the IT team's on-call rotation and respond to critical incidents as required.
Who You Are
  • Strong technical foundation across Microsoft Azure, Active Directory, Windows Server, and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Cisco Meraki and FortiGate networking experience required.
  • Experience with integrations between ERP, WMS, POS, Accounting, and HR systems.
  • Skilled in virtualization, network architecture, and security best practices.
  • Familiar with Business Central, Power BI, and other tools within the Microsoft ecosystem.
  • Understanding of ITIL principles (incident, change, and problem management).
  • Hands-on experience with automation and scripting (PowerShell) and infrastructure monitoring.
  • Proven ability to support multi-location retail environments, including POS systems and store connectivity.
  • 5–7 years of progressive experience in systems administration or infrastructure management.
  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, VMware Certified Professional, CompTIA Security+, or ITIL v4 Foundation are strong assets.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Why You'll Love Working with Us
  • Impactful Work: Help shape Chatters' IT infrastructure and support innovation across retail and e-commerce channels.
