SCOPE:

The Parenting Across the Life Cycle Training Coordinator will develop and implement the training programs for

the Parenting Support Workers as well as assisting with special projectsin the Community Development Portfolio.

The program will support Indigenous women in a culturally rooted, holistic way, to assist women in navigating

through the complex systems encountered when experiencing violence and involvement in child welfare matters.

The coordinator will develop trainings/workshops and collect resource materials, including good practices in CAS

and VAW, as well as, communication materials to support the Parenting Support Workers with their

responsibilities in advocating for Indigenous Women and their families.

This program will focus on the development and training of the PAL Parenting Support Workers on the parenting

program, spanning the lifecycle from infant, to child, to youth and beyond. ONWA will continue to reclaim and

restore the role of Indigenous women as mothers, recognizing their inherent right to parent their children. ONWA

also recognizes and reinforces that the original bond between an Indigenous mother and her child must be the

priority in the child welfare and child wellness systems. ONWA continues to support and nurture Indigenous

women's ability to mother providing programs that offer culturally appropriate early intervention and prevention

healing services and appropriate safety planning.

This program will address the needs of families with parenting across the life cycle and will work collaboratively with

the other BFFV positions to meet the needs and address the gaps. The Parenting Program Training Coordinator will

support a wholistic approach ensuring Indigenous women and their families are in the driver's seat, in control, and

are meaningfully engaged to use their voices to co-develop a parenting program that encompasses parenting skills

from infant care to child, youth and beyond.

This position will also support the BFFV program expansion. Additionally, the Parenting Program Training

Coordinator will facilitate the BFFV Parenting Program Worker training and education and co-develop

trauma informed resources and supports and a Parenting Program Manual that will focus on developing

parenting skills for all ages and the process of reunification

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in Social Work, Indigenous Learning, Women's Studies with a

    minimum three (3) years' work experience in community service delivery.
  • Thorough knowledge of Child Welfare Systems and Violence Against Indigenous Women Sectors.
  • Proven experience in and knowledge of victims' issues surrounding child welfare and violence.
  • Excellent facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Experience coordinating workshops and/or conferences.
  • Experience with resource development and implementation.
  • Knowledge of Train the Trainer model.
  • Ability to network with strong partnership building skills.
  • Awareness of Community Resources provincially.
  • Excellent administrative and coordination skills.
  • Proficiency in computer programs especially Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and to manage time effectively.
  • Highly motivated, ability to work with minimal supervision and able to meet strict reporting

    deadlines.
  • Capacity to problem solve and to see different perspectives.
  • Experience with project financial management.
  • Valid driver's license, access to a vehicle with valid insurance and a safe driving record.
  • Current, valid vulnerable sector criminal records check. Valid 1st Aid/CPR.
  • A cellular phone and internet access is required within this position
  • Must be willing and able to work a flexible working from home arrangement if required. This may include a combination of virtual remote work in your home and in office arrangements. This will be based on operational needs and will be determined by the ONWA.
  • Ability to speak an Indigenous language an asset.

The full salary range for this role is $56,400 - $69,405. ONWA conducts annual performance reviews, and employees may be eligible for salary adjustments based on performance outcomes and available funding.
