Role Overview
The Financial Accountant plays a key role in transforming day-to-day accounting data into meaningful financial insights. Acting as the bridge between transactional finance (AP/AR) and senior financial leadership, this role ensures the accuracy of financial records, prepares reconciliations, and delivers timely monthly and quarterly reports.

The ideal candidate brings strong accounting knowledge, an eye for detail, and the ability to translate numbers into clear, actionable reporting. Success in this role requires collaboration across departments, ensuring financial results are complete, accurate, and well-documented. This position is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to develop their expertise in corporate reporting and analysis.

Core Responsibilities
Corporate & Financial Reporting

  • Prepare and distribute monthly departmental budget reports, highlighting key variances and providing commentary to support department heads in financial decision-making
  • Produce timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports in line with corporate requirements
  • Develop variance analyses between actuals, budgets, and forecasts
  • Assist with management reporting packages, including summaries for executive review and board reporting

Month-End Close and General Ledger Oversight

  • Execute month-end close activities, including preparation of journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
  • Assist with monthly and quarterly close processes, ensuring timely and accurate results.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of the general ledger and sub-ledgers to support reliable financial reporting.
  • Partner with FP&A to ensure alignment between accounting actuals and forward-looking budgets/forecasts.

Account Reconciliations and Controls

  • Own key balance sheet account reconciliations, including fixed assets, intercompany, and accruals.
  • Maintain accurate supporting schedules to ensure compliance with internal controls and audit requirements.
  • Support external audit processes by preparing reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation

Transaction Review and Process Improvement

  • Review and validate AP/AR entries to ensure proper classification and accounting treatment.
  • Assist with continuous improvements in reporting processes, including leveraging automation to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure complete and accurate financial data capture.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with projects, development, and operations teams to ensure proper expense tracking and cost allocations.
  • Provide ad hoc reporting or analysis to support budgeting, forecasting, or project review.
  • Serve as a point of contact for department leaders on reporting inquiries, variance explanations, and budget-to-actual insights.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA or an equivalent professional designation preferred.
  • 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting principles (IFRS).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems .
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in the energy or infrastructure sector is considered an asset.
  • Experience with business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI) is preferred.
