Job Description: Under the direction of a Program Manager and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, the Senior Social Worker on the Kinship Team provides a range of screening, triage, assessment, treatment and case coordination while providing outreach services in the community to a primarily child and youth mental health and addiction population. As a senior practitioner, the incumbent acts as a resource for other professionals for mental health and addiction in the community. The senior social worker provides formal supervision (clinical, professional and administrative) to other employees and students in clinical practicums.

Education Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Experience Requires a minimum of three years (postgraduate) recent recognized clinical experience in a community mental health setting working with children, youth and families presenting with acute and chronic mental health and addiction problems. Knowledge, Skill & Abilities Extensive knowledge of normal child and adolescent and young adult development and psychopathology. Knowledge of best practice or empirically based models for the range of childhood mental health disorders. Ability to identify, implement and evaluate areas of client difficulty across a wide range of clinical presentation and formulate evidence based intervention. Knowledge of the diversity of cultures, values and traditions and their impact on accessing mental health services. Knowledge of a variety of intervention strategies (individual and group) for children/youth with mental health and addiction problems in a community setting, including, but not limited to: assessment, triage treatment and case management. Leadership skills and abilities and professional maturity to develop and maintain relationships within a multidisciplinary team, interagency programs and across the community of human services. Excellent consultation skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with community partners and possess a broad knowledge of community resources including treatment programs and support agencies. Excellent public relations skills and demonstrated ability to provide public education regarding children and youth and mental health concerns. Ability to design, initiate and conduct in service training for other professionals. Ability to work independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary mental health and addiction team. Ability to manage a complex caseload with multiple demands. Knowledge of mentoring principles and ability to develop supervision plans for new social workers. Knowledge and practical application of the Mental Health Services Act and Health Information Protection Act and other legislation that impacts the work of clinicians in a mental health and addiction setting. Strong communication skills (written and verbal). Ability to document in a concise and timely manner. Excellent interpersonal competence including effective problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Ability to enter and retrieve data in computer database systems.
