This position has two main focuses. The first is transferring the knowledge gained through applied research to stakeholders including industry, business, practitioners, regulators and all Albertans. The second is engaging with stakeholders, including northern and Indigenous communities, in skill development and capacity building to support reclamation, restoration, reforestation and related environmental services in Alberta.

This position is located at the NAIT Centre for Boreal Research in Peace River, Alberta. The town of Peace River is a vibrant community of approximately 6,700 people in the heart of the Boreal Forest of Northwest Alberta. It offers a variety of urban amenities but with a small-town feel

Key Responsibilities:

• Promoting research extension through writing and presentations
• Writing applied research-related technical notes, articles and publications
• Developing technical videos of value to practitioners
• Contributing to proposals to secure long term funding in support of research extension and forest education
• Teaching seed collection, extraction, and testing skills to Indigenous communities and Industry
• Teaching forest reclamation to Indigenous communities and Industry
• Other duties as required

Skills & Abilities:

• Team player, works well with others
• Confidence in presenting and teaching
• Ability to write for different audiences

Qualifications:

• Bachelor Degree or Masters Degree in natural or biological science required
• Experience in community outreach and/or education required
• Experience with conveying scientific theories, practices and findings to layman required
• Knowledge and experience working with northern and Indigenous communities preferred
• Clean and valid driver's licence

Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services (WES), International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) or the Comparative Education Services (CES).

Remuneration: $56, $74,115.34 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification – Research Assistant II).

This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
