Forestry Coordinator

This position requires residence in Eastern Canada (exact location flexible). This is a fully remote position with travel up to 40% of the time throughout Canada.
What you can expect:
The overall function of this position is to uphold Preferred by Nature's mission to support better land management and business practices that benefit people, nature and the climate. As a Forestry Coordinator, you'll work within your team to collectively provide client management and auditing services to forestry and supply chain clients. You'll be directly involved in all aspects of forestry and supply chain certification assessments and audits including scheduling, project management, customer service, technical guidance, consultant management, and quality control.

Within three months, you will:
- Complete comprehensive training in our systems, FSC/PEFC/SFI standards, and certification protocols
- Begin managing a small portfolio of existing clients under supervision
- Participate in audits as a team member to gain hands-on experience
- Establish key working relationships across our North American team
Within six months, you will:
- Take primary responsibility for managing 3-5 certification projects independently
- Serve as lead auditor for smaller-scale assessments with senior staff support
- Develop expertise in your chosen certification scheme and begin cross-training
- Contribute to client recruitment efforts in your assigned market segments
Within one year, you will:
- Independently manage a full portfolio of 8-10 forestry and supply chain clients
- Qualify as RRA reviewer and conduct peer reviews for other auditors
- Lead client recruitment strategy development for your market segments
- Contribute to policy development and technical improvements to certification
Essential Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in forestry, Natural Resource Management, Forest Ecology, or related field
- Minimum of 2 years of field experience in forestry, forest ecology or related areas
- Knowledge of Chain of Custody (CoC) and sustainability certifications (FSC, SFI, PEFC)
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to handle competing priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong computer skills (word processing, databases, spreadsheets) and presentation skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- High adaptability to work across diverse client needs and certification requirements
- Reside in Eastern Canada (exact location flexible)
- Willingness to travel up to 40% of the time throughout Canada, with a priority focus on French-speaking Canada
- Bilingual proficiency in English and French
- Ability to work in field conditions that may require exposure to difficult terrain and hot, dry, or cold, inclement weather
Would also be great, but not necessary, if you have:
- Master's degree in forestry or related field
- Silviculture and harvesting experience
- Direct auditing experience in FSC or similar certification programs
- Environmental management system auditor training experience
- Experience with forest products, agriculture or sustainable biomass projects
