ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to a Director, the Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) is an integral part of the Community Consultation and Assessment teams (CCAAS) as well as the Community and Day Treatment programs. As the Speech Language Pathologist on the CCAAS team and within the community and Day Treatment programs, the SLP will be responsible for administering clinical assessments for children and adolescents, and providing treatment where indicated. The CCAAS is a specialized service for children and youth between the ages of 5 and 18 years and their families. It is a multi-disciplinary team that includes professionals from the fields of Psychiatry, Psychology, Speech and Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy and Social Work. As a specialized consultation and assessment service, team members provide diagnostic clarification and treatment recommendations. Referrals to the service and to our other programs present with a wide array of developmental challenges along with chronic, diverse, and complex mental health issues. The child and youth's difficulties can encompass intellectual and adaptive challenges, language and learning issues, and a broad range of social/emotional challenges. The Speech Language Pathologist will remain knowledgeable on current and emerging research pertaining to clinical frameworks and industry best practices.

Hours of Work: Twenty Eight (28) hours per week
A LOOK AT YOUR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide consultation as well as speech and language assessments for children who present with a broad range of communication disorders.
- Work collaboratively with children, youth and their families, including cross-sector service provider partners (e.g., school boards, children's mental health services providers, health care professionals, Children's Aid Societies and other community organizations).
- Participate in regular interdisciplinary team meetings and in regular feedback sessions with clients, their families and service providers.
- Provide consultation and follow-up direction to service providers in receipt of assessment results.
- Provide direction to the multidisciplinary team regarding the speech language needs of clients being assessed by the CCAAS service.
- Provide assessments and/or consultations for our community programs and with our Day Treatment classrooms as necessary.
- Offer occasional workshops or presentations to agency staff or community members on topics related to children's speech language needs.
- Participate in regular team meetings to discuss administrative, clinical and learning concerns that impact the team and/or clients, including problem-solving and providing knowledge-based sharing of industry best practices.
- Provide timely provision of reports according to internal policies and procedures, including accreditation standards.
- Support the implementation of quality assurance and evaluation processes that involve the monitoring, collection, and recording of clinical and service data, including submitting data in a timely manner and in accordance with internal policies and procedures.
- Maintain a system of documentation and reporting that is consistent with quality assurance standards and procedures, legislation, accreditation, and best practices.
- Ensure client files are maintained in accordance with quality assurance standards and procedures, legislation, accreditation, and best practices.
- Participate in regular supervision with the Manager of Clinical Services and engages in ongoing professional development as it applies to the role and agency policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
- Post graduate degree in Speech Language Pathology.
- Minimum 3 years of clinical experience
- The ability to be creative, flexible, and enthusiastic and have excellent interpersonal skills.
- Registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO).
- Extensive child and adolescent mental health background preferably in a children's mental health setting, including knowledge of child and youth mental health legislation and regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team and with other service providers is essential.
- Competence in modelling professionalism and maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including editing skills with attention to detail.
- Experience working with children and youth living with and impacted by depression, anxiety, strained social relationships, trauma, psychiatric diagnoses, learning disabilities and difficult family dynamics.
- Demonstrate sound judgement related to the development of collaborative approaches working with children, youth and their families, including high-risk circumstances and safety planning.
- Excellent organizational, solution-based problem-solving and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Experience facilitating groups, webinars and workshops.
- Functional technological skills (e.g., Office 365, MS Office, SharePoint, software applications).
- Awareness and appreciation for the dynamics of equity issues (diversity, equity and inclusion), especially as it relates to gender, ethnicity, race, and economic status.
- Identification with the strategic mission, vision and values of the organization including inclusion, collaboration, people centred, knowledgeable and courageous.
- Previous experience providing clinical supervision to students an asset.
- Excellent skills in test administration, scoring, interpretation and report writing.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and efficiently within given timelines.
