The Position:

The Upper School program at Havergal College is distinguished by opportunities for students to develop and learn in an environment that is diverse, stimulating, and supportive. Teaching facilities are well equipped and offer bright, technology-rich environments.

Specific Accountabilities:

• Implements lesson plans provided by the music teacher, ensuring the integrity of the program is maintained and takes place within the allotted time frame;
• Demonstrates effective classroom management;
• Understands and follows relevant school procedures (e.g., attendance, supervision), including emergency procedures;
• Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible;
• Completes a Supply Teacher Report Form;
• Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Academics, in accordance with school policies and practices.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

• Relevant university qualifications at the Bachelor level (e.g. Bachelor of Music), including a Bachelor of Education/Master of Teaching degree with Intermediate/Senior qualifications in Instrumental or Vocal Music.
• Certification from the Ontario College of Teachers and be a member in 'Good Standing';
• Non-practicum music teaching or ensemble director experience is an asset;
• High level musical knowledge and proficiency on a musical instrument;
• A comprehensive understanding of the current Ministry of Ontario curriculum;
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, time-management and communication skills;
• Well-developed classroom management skills and
• The ability to take direction and to be open to feedback.
