Compensation:
 $70-80,000 base + bonus (Depends on Experience with B type Lending- we have 2 roles opened- within 3-5 years of B lending exp the salary range is 70k and 5+ years in B lending the range goes to 80k)

About the Role

Our financial client is expanding its Residential Underwriting team to meet the growing demand in the market. With volumes up significantly and new product offerings attracting broker interest, we are looking for an experienced Residential Underwriter who can thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. This is an exciting opportunity to join one of Canada's leading alternative lenders and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing team of 10 underwriting professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adjudicate new residential mortgage applications in the B-lending space, ensuring sound credit decisions in line with company policies and risk appetite.

  • Manage a daily pipeline of approved mortgage deals (approximately 4-5 applications per day), from initial review through to funding.

  • Collaborate closely with Fulfillment Officers and Mortgage Officers to collect and review all supporting documentation required for approval.

  • Liaise directly with mortgage brokers to clarify requirements, communicate conditions, and provide timely updates on applications.

  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of all documentation to meet regulatory, compliance, and internal audit standards.

  • Assess applicant creditworthiness, analyze income and debt servicing, and confirm property valuations to support lending decisions.

  • Provide exceptional communication and service to internal and external partners to facilitate a smooth underwriting and funding process.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 2-7 years of experience in residential mortgage underwriting, adjudication, or fulfillment with an alternative or near-prime lender.

  • Strong understanding of B-lending and alternative lending products, including self-employed borrower programs and non-traditional income verification.

  • Experience working with mortgage documentation, credit bureau analysis, and adjudication systems.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships with brokers, sales teams, and internal partners.

  • High attention to detail and the ability to prioritize multiple files in a high-volume environment.

  • Candidates with backgrounds as Associate Underwriters, Fulfillment Officers, or Mortgage Officers in the B-lending space are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Candidates from the A-lending space with transferable credit and documentation experience will also be considered.
