Bookkeeper Required for Construction Company

A leading construction company in central Calgary is seeking a Full Cycle Bookkeeper to work with a Controller in the accounting department.

The right candidate will have a college or university education with a specialty in accounting or an accounting designation (CGA, CPA), and will have at least 5 years of progressive experience in an accounting department of a mid-sized company. Preference will be given to candidates with construction experience that involved progress billing and project profitability procedures.

The position will require hands on full cycle accounting, including bookkeeping, accounts payable, billing, project reporting and financial statement preparation. This position offers competitive wages, to commensurate with experience.

Job Duties include:

  • Work with all aspects of full cycle accounting, A/P, A/R, Account Reconciliations
  • Expense coding, management and administration
  • % of completion accounting and progress billings
  • Journal entries & month end close
  • Payroll project cost allocations (payroll is outsourced)
  • Preparation of month-end financial statements
  • GST Compliance
  • Bank reconciliations and preparing of cash deposits
  • Credit Card payments and reconciliations
  • Maintain project-related records, including contracts and change orders
  • Work with Purchaser to ensure proper invoice matching and coding is performed
  • Review and approve supplier invoices related to a project
  • Report on project profitability to management
  • Investigate budget to actual project variances and submit variance reports to management
