About Second Nature
Second Nature is a child-led, neuro-affirming, attachment-based, and trauma-informed therapeutic educational program and multidisciplinary clinic. We specialize in supporting neurodivergent children by integrating therapeutic practices with meaningful, play-based learning. Our mission is to create spaces where children feel safe, seen, and celebrated, and where educators and clinicians work hand-in-hand to nurture whole-child development.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Lead Teacher / Early Childhood Educator to guide one of our classroom communities. This role involves leadership, curriculum planning, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, while staying grounded in Second Nature's philosophy of relational, child-centered practice. The Lead Teacher will model attuned, attachment-based approaches for staff, create inclusive learning environments, and ensure that each child's voice and strengths are honored in daily routines and activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a classroom team in designing and facilitating play-based, neuro-affirming learning experiences.
- Develop and implement individualized and group curriculum that supports children's social, emotional, sensory, and academic growth.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to classroom staff, modeling attachment-based and trauma-informed approaches.
- Collaborate closely with occupational therapists, psychologists, and other specialists to integrate therapeutic supports into the daily classroom environment.
- Build strong relationships with families, ensuring open communication and partnership.
- Ensure the classroom environment is flexible, sensory-friendly, and responsive to children's needs.
- Maintain documentation of children's progress and contribute to team planning meetings.
Qualifications
- Early Childhood Education diploma/degree, Bachelor of Education, or equivalent qualifications.
- Current registration and good standing with [appropriate governing body, e.g., the College of ECEs or OCT].
- Experience working with neurodivergent children in educational or therapeutic settings.
- Deep understanding of attachment theory, child development, and trauma-informed practice.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to mentor and support a team.
- Strong communication skills and commitment to collaboration with families and professionals.
- Creativity, flexibility, and a genuine respect for children's individuality.
