About the Role
The Technical Lead provides architectural direction, technical leadership, and cross-team guidance to ensure scalable, maintainable, and high-quality software delivery. This role extends beyond a single team's execution, influencing systems and solutions that span multiple product areas or domains. Technical Leads combine deep hands-on technical expertise with mentorship, strategic thinking, and oversight of engineering practices.
Technical Leads play a key part in defining system architecture, leading technical design, improving engineering standards, and enabling teams to deliver resilient and well-structured solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Technical Direction
- Set broad technical direction for the team and its adjacent domains, ensuring systems align with enterprise architecture and long-term strategy.
- Lead architectural discussions, evaluate design trade-offs, and ensure solutions meet scalability, security, and performance requirements.
- Maintain expertise across multiple services and systems; ensure new features integrate cohesively with existing architecture.
- Identify technical risks early and influence roadmap decisions with clear, well-reasoned recommendations.
System Design & Engineering Excellence
- Ensure high-quality system design that reduces duplication, prevents breaking changes, and enforces strong boundaries.
- Establish and uphold engineering principles, design standards, and patterns across teams.
- Partner with architects to guide modernization, refactoring, and long-term technical evolution.
Debugging, Observability & Incident Leadership
- Lead incident response across the engineering organization for issues impacting multiple systems or services.
- Apply advanced, systematic debugging practices to diagnose complex, multi-team problems.
- Coach teams on improving observability—instrumentation, logging, metrics, alerting—and ensure operational readiness.
- Drive stability and performance improvements through proactive monitoring strategies.
Testing Quality & Framework Stewardship
- Drive organization-wide testing strategy and ensure alignment with approved frameworks and quality expectations.
- Ensure the right mix of testing approaches (unit, integration, end-to-end) across teams.
- Support teams in adopting automated testing and enforcing testing standards in all new work.
Delivery & Execution Leadership
- Collaborate with product leaders and Technical Program Managers on sequencing, estimation, and technical planning.
- Ensure dependencies between teams are clearly understood and managed effectively.
- Identify blockers early and work with teams and leadership to remove obstacles to delivery.
- Guide teams through ambiguity, change, and risk with clarity and structure.
Team Collaboration & Cross-Functional Influence
- Act as a central technical point of alignment for multiple teams, improving communication across domains.
- Provide technical leadership that scales beyond a single product stream, influencing solutions at the organizational level.
- Foster strong relationships with business stakeholders, ensuring technical decisions support business value.
Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing
- Mentor other Developers and QA.
- Support skill development through coaching, pairing, and structured knowledge sharing.
- Promote documentation, knowledge transfer, and redundancy across teams
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field; OR equivalent practical experience and training.
- 7+ years of total software engineering experience.
- Evidence of continuous learning (e.g., recent certifications, bootcamps, or open-source contributions).
Technical Requirements
- Expert-level proficiency in C#, .NET, React, SQL Server, and distributed/cloud architectures.
- Deep understanding of system-level design, API strategies, microservices, and domain boundaries.
- Strong capability in diagnosing complex issues spanning multiple systems.
- Experience with observability tools, performance tuning, and reliability engineering.
- Strong grounding in CI/CD, automation, testing frameworks, and DevOps practices.
- Ability to evaluate and adopt emerging technologies based on business and architectural needs.
Non-Technical Requirements
- Excellent communication skills; able to explain technical decisions to senior leadership and business stakeholders.
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence without authority.
- Skilled at navigating ambiguity and providing structure and direction.
- High level of ownership and accountability; takes responsibility for technical outcomes across teams.
- Fosters a culture of continuous improvement, learning, and engineering excellence.
