Communications & Member Engagement Coordinator

The Pictou County Chamber of Commerce is looking for a friendly, community-minded person to join us on a part-time contract basis. This role is perfect for someone who loves connecting with people, telling stories, and helping local businesses shine. About the Role

We're looking for someone who can jump in and support our communications, member outreach, and event activities. You don't need to come with a long list of formal qualifications, we're much more interested in your energy, your willingness to learn, and your ability to help us share the incredible work happening in our business community. You'll work closely with the Executive Director to support day-to-day communications and member engagement, helping keep Chamber activities running smoothly.

Role Description

This is a temporary, on-site role located in Pictou County, NS, for a Communications & Member Engagement Coordinator. The coordinator will be responsible for overseeing and implementing communication strategies, managing relationships with members, creating content for newsletters and social media, and organizing events to engage the business community. This role will support initiatives to attract and retain members while ensuring alignment with the Chamber's mission and goals.

Typical Work Day

What You'll Be Doing

Communications & Marketing

  • Creating simple, engaging social media posts
  • Helping with newsletters (Mailchimp or similar — training available)
  • Assisting with basic marketing tasks (announcements, updates, member spotlights)

Member Relations & Outreach

  • Reaching out to businesses with updates, reminders, info, and friendly check-ins
  • Supporting membership engagement and helping new members feel welcomed
  • Gathering stories, photos, and updates from members for features

Events & Admin Support

  • Helping with event setup, registration, and on-site support
  • Assisting with follow-ups, acknowledgments, and promotional posts
  • Light administrative tasks when needed

Requirements

What's Most Important

What We're Looking For

  • A warm communicator who genuinely enjoys people
  • Someone who's comfortable using digital tools such as Microsoft Office, Canva, and basic project management platforms, and who is willing to learn new technologies as needed.
  • Reliable, organized, and able to manage a few recurring weekly tasks
  • A flexible mindset — some weeks are steady, some weeks are a little more active
  • Basic writing skills and a love of storytelling
  • Bonus (but not required): Experience with Canva, experience with events, and past customer-service experience

Skills and Traits

  • Ability to communicate professionally in writing and in person
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and manage recurring weekly tasks
  • Comfort speaking to local business owners and the public
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver's license

Hours

Flexible part-time hours, contract-based.

Options may include:

  • ~15 hours/week (e.g., 3 hours/day, 5 days a week)
  • OR 2 slightly longer days per week
  • Exact schedule will be shaped around the right person's availability.

Compensation

Contract/hourly rate — to be discussed based on experience and scope.
