TRAC is a full-service engine machine shop, specializing in repairing and machining engine blocks, crankshafts, cylinder heads, and connecting rods on all varying makes and models - such as Caterpillar, Cummins, John Deere, Waukesha, Arrow, Komatsu, and many others.

The Job
This role will work in our cylinder head remanufacturing department, where we dismantle, machine, and re-assemble cylinder heads. Our cylinder head department is home to a number of CNC and manual machines for cutting valve seats, grinding valves, and resurfacing cylinder heads among other things. This role will be responsible for the inspection of cylinder heads, quoting of repairs, and completion of rebuilds. They will use Magnaflux crack detection tools to verify the integrity of the head, and other precision instruments to measure specifications like deck height and valve protrusion. The ideal candidate will have direct experience rebuilding engine cylinder heads (automotive or industrial), but it will be considered a strong asset if the candidate has experience servicing inline-six diesel engines such as Cummins ISX, Caterpillar C15, or International 466 motors.
Job requirements:
- Must have a clear understanding of how natural gas and diesel engines operate, and the function and importance of each component in the engine
- 2+ years servicing either automotive or industrial engines
- 5+ years of experience working in a machine shop or similar environment
- Able to operate, and maintain a variety of machining tools including manual lathe, mill, drills, saws, and boring mills in a safe manner
- Able to safely operate overhead crane and rigging/hoisting devices
- Must be able to work within close tolerances
- Able to measure and inspect parts to shop standards
- Experience with precision measurement tools such as micrometers, dial gauges, calipers, etc.
- Able to perform machine maintenance
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Read and interpret drawings, charts, and tables
- Self-motivated while working in a team environment
- Excellent time management skills
- Must be able to maintain a clean working environment
Additional Assets
- Working knowledge and experience with different cutter types and metals
- Welding tickets and experience welding
- First aid training
