The IT Systems Administrator position is a complex and fast-paced role where a variety of technical work is required involving the implementation, administration, maintenance and documentation of the LPS business applications and interfaces. The overall purpose of the job includes the day-to-day functionality of the network data storage and associated systems, the day-to-day operations of backup systems, management and administration of security applications to ensure the integrity of the storage area network, provide project management related to system upgrades, storage and recovery deployment and other related storage-related initiatives. This role also works closely with other System Administrators and the Network Technician to provide expertise in the LPS network and to provide analysis, recommendations, and vision to the IT Manager for future direction of mission critical systems.

This full-time term position falls under the protection of a collective agreement associated to the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 70 contract. CUPE Local 70 represents employees who are employed in number of civic departments within the City of Lethbridge.
As an LPS Systems Administrator, you will:
- Configure and administer data restore and disaster recovery.
- Configure and administer data backup clients and servers.
- Maintain storage aspects of new server integrations, storage allocation, and change management for mobile device management, backup and building access related systems.
- Setup procedures to consolidate storage of data from different platforms (i.e. Windows, UNIX, and Linux).
- Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures in order to protect data, software, and hardware.
- Recommend changes to the IT Manager to improve systems and network configurations, and determine hardware or software requirements related to such changes in accordance with best practice for mobile device management, backup and building access related systems
- Champion the enterprise infrastructure vision and strategy for mobile device management, backup and building access related systems.
- Stay current with technological developments in systems administration technology and recommend ways for the LPS to take advantage of new technology to the IT Manager.
- Manage day-to-day operations of the IT component of the Building Video Monitoring system and related applications.
- Work with technical staff (internal and external) to solve mission critical and support application problems to meet end-user business needs.
- Manage, lead and/or assist with specialized policing systems as directed by the IT Manager.
- In coordination with the IT Manager, participate in the guidance on how to design, develop, and implement service management.
- Monitor, control and report on project progress using identified milestones.
- Operate master consoles in order to monitor the performance of data storage systems and networks, and to coordinate computer network access and use.
- Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs.
- Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
- Act as a backup for the IT Infrastructure Coordinator and other System Administrators as needed
As the successful candidate, you will have:
- High School Diploma/GED/Equivalent
- Four or more years of post secondary education including an undergraduate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or an equivalent field coupled with at least 5 years of relevant work experience (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a relevant bachelors degree with preference given to applicants who have at least 4 years of post secondary education in an information technology or an equivalent field)
- A minimum of five (5) years work experience with the following responsibilities and technologies:
- In-depth knowledge of infrastructure and network security.
- Expert knowledge deploying supporting, patching and administering Windows based servers.
- Proficient knowledge in group policies, active directory, azure and access permissions.
- Knowledgeable with virtualized environments.
- Working knowledge of Network Attached Storage (NAS) and enterprise disk arrays.
- Experience with data backups, recovery, archiving, and disaster recovery.
- Possess a strong customer service focus with the ability to meet and deal effectively and professionally with a variety of end-users, IT staff, co-workers, and external contacts.
- Advanced working technical knowledge of networks, Server/Client and operating systems.
- Experience with Mobile Device Management.
- Experience with Cloud services and hosted and hybrid environments.
- Knowledgeable with Microsoft Outlook and Exchange.
- Familiar with collaboration suites such as SharePoint.
- Experience in network design, support, and administration.
- Experience with wireless, technologies and wireless infrastructure.
- Extensive proven hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting experience.
- Experience with SQL databases and data management.
- Advanced skills in documenting and maintaining configuration and process information.
- Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
- In-depth understanding and experience in configuration management of IP-based infrastructure including switches, routers, mobility, etc.
- IT Project Management.
Wage: $53.91 per hour |2026 Rate.
Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week
Flexible/Compressed Work Week is available)
The successful candidate is required to consent to a police security clearance, which includes the voluntary completion and submission of a personal disclosure form (lifestyle questionnaire), criminal and police records check, reference checks and truth verification through polygraph examination.
