The Position:

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Junior Maintenance Worker to join our team at LutherCare Communities. As a Junior Maintenance Worker, you will play a pivotal role in carrying out in-suite repairs, coordinating suite restoration, performing grounds keeping tasks, and ensuring the smooth operation of mechanical equipment. Your contribution will directly impact the comfort, safety, and well-being of our residents and align with our organization's values and mission. Duties and Responsibilities of the Junior Maintenance Worker include:

  • Operate a variety of equipment, including power tools, lawn mowers, gas weed trimmers, hand tools, and more.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on plant equipment as outlined in maintenance manuals.
  • Take prompt action to address equipment malfunctions and issues.
  • Conduct daily checks on boiler mechanical equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Inspect emergency alarm systems and standby generators, adhering to government regulations and maintaining accurate records.
  • Maintain thorough weekly maintenance logs.
  • Execute seasonal grounds duties, such as lawn cutting and snow removal.
  • Undertake suite painting, general carpentry, and plumbing repairs as needed.
  • Respond effectively to emergency situations, demonstrating swift and appropriate action.
  • Attend LutherCare Communities planning meetings as required.
  • Apply problem-solving skills within established policies and procedures.
  • Assist with annual inspections and service contracts.
  • Communicate professionally with colleagues and external parties.
  • Adhere to LutherCare Communities' Policies and Procedures.
  • Complete additional job-related tasks delegated by the Manager.

The Applicants:

Applicants would typically qualify for this position through the completion of a High School Diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent, valid Fireman's Certificate required within 3 months of employment, valid driver's license and proficiency in computer and electronic devices (TV and internet). The applicant would have the Knowledge, Skills & Abilities noted below:

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong command of English (reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension).
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to remain composed during emergencies and take decisive action.
  • Openness and adaptability to change.
  • Demonstrates initiative and independence consistently.
  • Sound understanding of boiler, elevator, building, and fire codes, including fire evacuation procedures.
  • Familiarity with safe operation and maintenance of hand/power tools and grounds keeping equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of carpentry, painting, plumbing, and grounds keeping.
  • Effective time management and prioritization skills, even in the face of interruptions.
  • Capacity to take direction and collaborate within a team.
  • Physically fit and capable of performing job duties.
  • Willingness to participate in weekly on-call rotation.
