At Native Child, we are guided by our purpose: Honoring Our Roots, Embracing Our Future. We are inspired to be and do our best, recognizing the profound impact we have on our communities, our people, and our shared heritage. Our commitment to preserving and celebrating Indigenous culture drives us to be a leading force in our region. Here, you are welcomed into an inclusive and supportive environment that values each individual's contributions and fosters collective success.
Ready to Make a Difference? Native Child and Family Services of Toronto utilizes volunteer drivers to provide transportation to children in care to and from appointments, family visits, school, camp, and other special drive requests. We are always looking for drivers in the GTA who have good driving records, would like to give back to the community and are reliable and punctual.
Please note that this is a volunteer (non-employee) role. Kilometers are reimbursed at market value.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide local and long-distance transportation for children while abiding by the rules of the road and all driving/automobile related laws.
- Follow all Native Child and Family Services of Toronto policies and procedures as applicable.
- Driver's abstract must be submitted prior to commencing as a Volunteer Driver and will be completed and submitted to the Family Access Supervisor on an annual basis.
- Must have, and maintain, a minimum of $2,000,000 liability insurance.
- Adherence to mandatory seat belt and child restraint regulations.
- Experience with children is an asset.
- Reliability, flexibility, patience, and confidentiality are all required.
- Vulnerable Sector Clearance must be completed at the start of service, and every 3 years thereafter (cost is reimbursed by agency).
- Must always have a valid G driver's license.
- Must complete mandatory child safety seat training, as required.
- Hours can include Sunday- Saturday with a range of times depending on the needs of the community member(s), and availability of the driver. There is no minimum or maximum amount of drives per week, and it is specifically based off of program needs.
NOTE: All vehicles must be equipped with approved tether bolts so that infant/toddler car seats may be secured. If the vehicle is equipped with a passenger air bag, children under the age of 13 must sit in the rear seat using a seat belt.
