Job Summary
Working under the direction of the Community Connections Manager, the Cross-Cultural Training/Facilitator works as part of a team of MAGMA facilitators who reach out to the community in a variety of areas to provide cross-cultural training and education. The primary focus is to create a local community that has the skills and attitudes necessary to welcome and integrate newcomers, both socially and economically. To do this, the Facilitator takes the lead in building these competencies through creating, promoting, and delivering cross-cultural training.
Core Position Responsibilities
The Facilitator's duties fall under three categories:
Developing Community Connections and Partnerships
Facilitation of workshops only happens once the connections and partnerships are formed with the organizations that need them. Therefore, the Facilitator's primary role proactively establishing those relationships and promoting the benefits of the program. This involves:
- Networking: Develop a networking strategy to promote and engage relevant stakeholders to participate in cross-cultural competency training and to actively recruit newcomers.
- Promotion: Developing a promotional strategy that integrates social media, informational brochures, and other materials necessary to promote the program.
- Logistics: Coordinating logistics and details of the training delivery, as well as tracking all relevant administration
Facilitating Cross-Cultural Competency Training
Having established these connections and gaining commitment to host Cross-Cultural Training (CCT), the Facilitator's other primary role involves taking the lead to deliver the workshops, examples of which include:
- Service Delivery: Supporting sectors such as community service providers, government departments, health care professionals, and private industry understand how to work across cultural barriers in successfully delivering their services.
- Internal: Assisting MAGMA volunteers and clients to be successful in their interactions.
Program Development and Enhancement
There is an existing CCT program that is highly regarded and very successful, which currently has a team who develop new curriculum and deliver workshops. However, it is a cutting-edge approach that requires continual development, refinement, and expansion. As such the Facilitator will work with the CCT team to:
- Ensure a consistent delivery of workshops amongst the members of the team.
- Tailoring delivery to the needs of individual organizations in terms of timing and content.
- Work on new modules and approaches to ensure the training remains tailored, relevant and is regarded as an industry-standard for innovative approaches in the field.
Required Skills & Qualifications
The ideal candidate should possess the following:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a facilitation, networking, teaching, communications and/or public relations role, preferably in the community services or nonprofit sector.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Additional languages are a strong asset.
- Demonstrated ability to create and deliver presentations and training workshops, including mentoring and cross-training others in these skills.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and connect with relevant strategic stakeholders in the business, political, educational, and social development fields.
