Shop Floor Assistant

About the Role

We are seeking a proactive, forward-thinking, go-getter to join our team as a Shop Floor Assistant. This role supports daily operations across our advanced manufacturing environment and is ideal for someone who takes initiative, thrives in a fast-moving shop, and wants to grow across fabrication, CNC, and additive manufacturing.

You will assist with general shop upkeep, materials handling, machining support, welding prep, powder-coating prep, and 3D printing operations.

Key ResponsibilitiesShop Operations & Organization

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
  • Sweep, clean, and manage waste, recycling, and consumables.
  • Organize materials, tools, hardware, and fabricated parts systematically.
  • Assist with inventory counts, restocking, and general shop flow.

Fabrication Support

  • Operate the bandsaw for cutting raw materials to spec.
  • Perform grinding, deburring, and finishing on metal components.
  • Assist with powder-coating prep, including cleaning, masking, sanding, and part handling.
  • Conduct light MIG and TIG welding—basic weld passes, tacking, and fixture work under supervision.
  • Support general fabrication, assembly, and production tasks as needed.

Additive Manufacturing & CNC Support

  • Assist with 3D printing operations: machine prep, material loading, part removal, and post-processing.
  • Support CNC machining by preparing materials, loading/unloading parts, and performing simple operations under guidance.
  • Run parts between departments and assist with basic quality checks.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort working hands-on with tools and equipment.
  • Experience with:
  • Bandsaws
  • Angle grinders
  • MIG/TIG welding (basic level accepted)
  • Powder-coating prep
  • Basic CNC machines
  • 3D printing (asset)
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow instructions and operate safely.
  • Ability to lift 40–50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Valid driver's license (asset for parts running).
