In alignment with its strategic directions related to clinical medicine, health systems, and health of populations, the College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as Vice Dean, Research (Clinical, Health Services and Population Health). This is an exciting time to provide impactful leadership as the College pursues a shared goal of deepening its impact, dedication, funding and reputation.
Reporting to the Dean of the College, the Vice Dean will provide strategic leadership and coordination of research and clinical trials spanning clinical care, health services, and population health. Working in close partnership with the Vice Dean, Research (Biomedical Sciences), they will co-lead the College of Medicine's Research Office to advance the college's research agenda and impact. This role plays a key part in advancing the College's integrated research vision, emphasizing collaboration across disciplines and alignment with both institutional and national research priorities, including across USask's sites and those of its clinical partners across Saskatchewan. The Vice Dean will work in close partnership with the decanal team and all members of the College to ensure the College's research strategy is committed to growth, cohesion, innovation, and responsiveness to the health challenges facing communities at all levels. In addition, the Vice Dean is responsible for promoting international research collaboration, enhancing graduate program excellence, and ensuring that research initiatives reflect the College's values of inclusion, impact, and social accountability. The role is 50% administrative, allowing the Vice Dean to actively pursue other areas of specialty, which may include clinical activities, research, and medical education.
Candidates for this position will hold an MD or PhD or MD/graduate degree (Master's and/or doctoral level) in a relevant field. Regardless of the academic credentials held, candidates will have significant leadership experience in academic or clinical research environments, demonstrating the ability to foster collaboration across academic, healthcare, community, and policy sectors. A commitment to truth and reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion in research leadership is essential, along with a deep understanding of translational and community-engaged scholarship. The ideal leader will bring a growth mindset, vision, integrity, and a passion for advancing health research that meaningfully improves lives, locally and globally, while building capacity for future generations of clinician-scientists, researchers, and learners.
